I got a message from eBay saying to update my account details.
"It’s now simpler to get paid on eBay
Getting paid has changed: Fees and expenses will be deducted before you get paid out and the remainder of your earnings will go directly to your bank account, not your PayPal account. Get set up in a few easy steps."
I primarily just tend to leave all the money I receive in my PayPal, so I wanted to ask for clarification: does this mean sellers can no longer use PayPal as a means of payment? We have to store the money in a bank account now?
I also saw something saying eBay raised their fees. Is that also true?
Thanks for clarifying.

And that's a perfectly fine decision. Best of luck to you.
Meanwhile, here in eBayland, people will push back when patently false info is posted about this or any other topic. That's also perfectly fine.

True words to be sure!!! Come on back and ask questions as you run into them. Get really familiar with the Payment Tab in the Seller Hub. That will certainly help. There is lots of info there and more to come as they make improvements.

There is a difference from stating the facts and being defensive. I don't care if sellers stay or go. But too many make assumptions and pass around bad info. I simply try to make sure the correct information is out there so that sellers can make an informed decision. You are free to run with any information you choose. Some really don't like for facts to get in the way. I get that.
AS to your bank info. Bank routing numbers are public information. You can probably go to any bank's website and acquire that information. Or you can call the bank and they will freely give you that information and you don't have to be an account holder.
Have you ever given anyone an actual check? If so you are providing to them not only the bank routing number but your account number every single time you do that.

The American Bankers Association has a website where you can look up any bank routing # you want:

This is typical corporate propaganda. Dropping PP for better service? Oh sure. You are NOT giving sellers any option other than MP or nothing. Go away. Our way, or the highway. We obviously need more profits.
I've been with eBay since the beginning. Always had fun selling a small amount of items every year, floating the money in PP, and then almost always finding ways to spend that cash on more eBay items. AND, not letting my wife see me spending a little mad money. That will be gone now.
I will NOT give you my bank account number, nor my S.S. number, or my photo I.D. You have ruined this selling, it looks like for many of us. May the internet gods forgive you...

Yes you are right. Just as all the other similar sites did years ago. Ebay is the last of the bigger sites to do their own money processing. So yes it is very typical. All these sites are after all for profit corporations. To make a profit isn't a dirty word. We are all here to make a profit. That is exactly why every seller is here selling. To make money. I'm not apologizing for that nor does anyone else need to. It is why we are ALL here.
I'm not the one that needs your bank account or SSN. That is MP. AS for your photo ID, if all goes well if you register by giving them your SSN, bank routing number and bank account number, you may never need to give them your Photo ID. That isn't a requirement for everyone. It only becomes important if they have some issue with verifying your identity.
"May the internet gods forgive you..." What? Why? What the heck are you talking about. Forgive me for what exactly? Because I've decided to stay selling on Ebay??
I wish you well in whatever you decide to do.

I agree with you.
The often repeated canard that 'you gave your SSN and photo ID to X therefore you should give it to Y' is clearly disingenuous. It's a decision you have to make each time. Is this company trustworthy enough?
I'd like them to be, but it will require some improvements.

I agree. They started ripping sellers off by charging us fees on the shipping cost which the USPS should be paying - they're the ones getting business from our sales. It made selling more difficult because we had to charge more money to cover these fees. Now they're taking away Paypal but still charging the same rates as when Paypal was involved. Another ripoff! If Paypal is gone, then the final value fee shouldn't go up.

The final value fee did not go up. It is much closer to a neutral move as far as fees go for most sellers when you look at a months worth of fees.
The FVFs on shipping have been around for over 10 years and every site similar to Ebay charges it too, so it isn't just Ebay. I know that doesn't make it better, it is simply the nature of the beast.

So eBay is now performing the money processing function that PayPal used to do, but you think they shouldn't get paid a fee similar to what PayPal charged for doing that? They should just do it for free?
And you want USPS to pay eBay's FVF on shipping? ROFL
