Did you mean:

eBay not using PayPal anymore?

I got a message from eBay saying to update my account details.

"It’s now simpler to get paid on eBay

Getting paid has changed: Fees and expenses will be deducted before you get paid out and the remainder of your earnings will go directly to your bank account, not your PayPal account. Get set up in a few easy steps."

I primarily just tend to leave all the money I receive in my PayPal, so I wanted to ask for clarification: does this mean sellers can no longer use PayPal as a means of payment? We have to store the money in a bank account now?

I also saw something saying eBay raised their fees. Is that also true?

Thanks for clarifying.

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

Thanks for the information, then I will no longer use ebay.  There is no way in hell, I'm giving ebay or any other online retailer for that manner access in any way shape or form to my bank account.  This is the dumbest decision ebay has ever made.

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

If you can't buy with PayPal anymore, I had the same problem.  If someone else has explained this already just disregard this. I can't go back and read 241 pages..... Have you tried to un-link your ebay account from PayPal, then re-link it? That worked for me. Go to a private window in your browser. Go to ebay, hover over your name at the top, then account. Left side "Payments".  Left side, paypal account. "Buying on Ebay" middle of page. "Unlink Accounts". Then close out page. Go back to same place, and "Link" account. Worked for me.

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

Whereas  PayPal payments are immediately available to the sellers 24/7, 365 days a year.

Guess which system I prefer?

"Mismanaged Payments" are a deal-breaker for me.

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

MP = "Mismanagement Payments" that sums it all up I think.

"everything's gonna be fine"

no, it won't. small sellers moving away is going to be detrimental, since for each buyer there needs to be AT LEAST a seller. so no matter the edulcoration, eBay is going to have quite the hard time.

been a private seller on eBay for years, now this is just not ideal for me. I have absolutely no reason to create a bank account outside eBay, since I don't move large quantities of money and any income I get is charged in my prepaid card.

that 12,35% fee is going to be taken even from <€9,99 items, isn't it? well, right now eBay isn't charging monthly fees for such items. I can only predict small sellers increase their price if this thing stays, therefore hurting sales volumes and looking to Chinese market (which sells statistically less stable items and sometimes just stuff doesn't arrive because it gets lost or whatever, and sometimes sellers just won't refund because "reasons") instead of homeland market. I wonder what's going to happen - if it's not happened already.

somebody saying "this has nothing to do with the eBay-PP debacle". well, my 2c are about the little system incased in the greater system, and eBay is part of that greater system as well.

PayPal was super useful, it had its drawbacks (nothing is 100% pure) but at least payments came like instantly if the procedure went correctly. what about now? item is declared as "paid" and you've got to ship it like RIGHT THE F* NOW or eBay will take measures. a 30-day shipping time isn't exactly appealing to the customer. and what if the payment doesn't go well? what if the customer wants a refund RIGHT THE F* NOW even if the payment STILL hasn't arrived?

no, absolutely not. this is true and utter bulls**t to me and I'll start looking around for alternatives.

goodbye eBay, it was fun until it lasted. you've officially crossed the line.

and to mam9* or something, don't reply to this, I know you're handling damage control (to me it's crystal clear, or else you would've stopped months ago, and you're way too polite), so please don't respond, thank you.

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

last piece of mind: it seems to me that eBay is privileging bigger sellers for some reason (those who can afford refunding at day 1 or something even without payment collected). and I don't like it.

Me too, but unfortunately it isn't an option for those that have been informed it is time to move into MP.

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

Yes, this is what scares me. I sell something for $250 they get it. A week later I move to my checking. Then person says it's scratched, damaged, not as described what ever. Next this, with out notice $250 is coming out of my checking. Let's say I hadn't sold that much that week. Now I'm overdraw and hit with a $35 overdraft. I write the person with standard "if you aren't happy return and I will refund." They have 30 days to return..surprise never happens. I finally get my $250 back after over month, but no one's going to cover the $35 overdraft fee I incurred. So basically under this managed payments if you have to keep in you account for 30 days what ever you make to cover if someone decides to open a case. To prevent overdraft you'd have to have amount of largest sale in account over past 30 days at any given time.  With paypal you cannot overdraw. eBay would have to wait until you sold something else to get money back

What did you do when you used PayPal?  If PP put a hold on the money, how did you cover it?

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

Started with message #1. Message #49 provided my answer. Thank you!

  • If you refund a buyer, and you don't have enough to cover the full amount of the refund from your Available, Processing, and On hold funds, we'll charge your payout checking account or automatic payment method to cover the remaining amount

Here's a link to the page that provides this and more information:

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

It's sudden and new because Ebay and Paypal never issued 1099Ks for under $20,000 in sales. Now this year and from now on, it will be under $600.

Where do you find "automatic payment method to cover the remaining amount? In automatic payment it just shows my bank account where to send money to me.

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

You checking is the place to transfer your money to.  Are you able to change where a refund would come from, such as a credit card?

Your are correct is how you stated what would happen.  I asked my bank and yes, if eBay tries to take money that is not there then it would be counted as a bounced check and i would be charged a $35 fee.

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

I am not sure if you can or not?  I was asking, can you?

I know with the seller fees there is a option to come out of you pending funds or Credit Card?  Also I believe the is a option for how you do you Shipping Fees.

So why not Returning Money?  Maybe yes and maybe no?
