With managed payments it looks like I pay for shipping out of my pocket then ebay reimburses me. With paypal I get paid I use the buyers money to pay for shipping but will I have to keep money in my account for shipping to cover shipping until ebay reimbursees me? will ebay be changing this crazy idea or am I misunderstanding it?

You can choose many methods, but if you want to pay from 'Pending' funds... simply shimmy down to the bottom of your label page and change it from PayPal to 'Pending' payments. It will become your new default. Good luck.

You can make a sale and then buy label and that will show as a negative in available funds then when the sale is finished processing eBay will deduct that shipping from the processed funds and then send balance to your checking account.
So no, you do not have to be paying out of pocket, just make sure to change how you are paying for labels on the page for purchasing the shipping, towards the bottom make sure it is set for MP not PP

You get paid, money processes into your managed payments account, when you create shipping label you can opt to have the postage taken from those funds in your managed payments account

Afterthought... once you have a zero PayPal balance, you can opt to use your attached bank account (or a credit or debit card from your PayPal wallet)... just choose that method as your 'Preferred' payment method while shopping.
Without changing, the labels will come from your available PP funds, until it's dry.

Classic business cash flow problem. You need to keep enough cash on hand to cover operating expenses like that. Don't forget about returns you have to cover those too. Even with the old paypal system if a case was filed you had to refund the shipping too. So, you would have had to have more in your paypal account to cover it or add some. Best to have a reserve to cover such things.

I suggest floating $300 to $500 at all times in PayPal and forget about it.

I agree about keeping a reserve in PP...........
Just for information: This has happened twice now and I should have been able to prevent the second, but brain wasn't in gear.
Print out any shipping labels the nite before a payout....... i.e. Since Mon was a holiday, we left labels til Tues to do....... BUT all money was available and was sent early Tues. morn.......leaving us with nil for labels. Since there were no sales, the option to print from pending payments was greyed out and the only option was to use PP for the funding. There was money there, so no problem...... I also know people say that PP will charge cc or bank account if no money available..........but frankly I kind of fear that getting messed up at some point.

i pretty much think that im the only seller on ebay that takes my sold items to the post office and let them weigh and label and then pay them right then and there at the window and get my receipt with all my tracking numbers. i know i pay more. been doing it for almost a decade. i do it because i can

so i can use pending funds to pay for labels even tho i do not have the money yet and it will not give me like an overdraft it will just deduct it from the pending money which is fine. If that works out how I think I am understanding you no big deal I just did not want to have say $100 in my banking account and print out $125 worth of labels if that makes sense.

You can print label before EBAY deposits money into your checking account. EBAY reserves money "off the top" so you can print labels.
Because no money goes into your PayPal account...you need to change default on SHIPPING LABELS and MONTHLY STATEMENT to Managed Payments. Next time you print label (go to bottom of page) and click on box "to change to Managed Payments". You also need to change Monthly Statement (listing fees) to Managed Payments.

Seller Choice. You can have the cost deducted from your MP account or PP.
