I was wondering how many coin sellers realize that after you are in the new system you can no longer sell coins--they are prohibited. I "discussed" this with a rep last night. I told her there are over 3 million coins listed on ebay. It makes no sense to prohibit such a popular category. She told me it is because ebay is trying to eliminate the categories that have a lot of fraud. After I got off the phone I checked out random coin sellers. It is hard to find one with feedback less than 99.9%. Many of them are 100% with feedback in the thousands. I found some with 50,000 sales or more in the last year with less than 10 negatives. When I checked electronic sellers they have otrocious feedback! It is not unusual to have 5%-10% of their feedback as negatives and neutrals! Where is the real fraud!
I have done well with low cost coins so I decided to upgrade to higher price coins. I purchased some large coin collections and was ready to list. I told the rep how unfair this is. Her answer?--"maybe you can take them to a local coin store and get most of your money back".How many other coin sellers are feeling robbed?

Coins are not prohibited and eBay has no intention of removing the coin category. Please don't spread rumors. Search for this subject on this board and you will find tons of responses from eBay and other coin sellers confirming this. Coins are only prohibited under eBay's new managed payment. eBay plans on including them at some time in the near future. Existing coin sellers continue to Use Paypal, etc. I find it extremely hard to believe any eBay rep would tell you what you claim, especially since you have coins for sale. Maybe you are already in MP.

As said, rep is wrong.......... innumerable threads....... Sellers of over 50% coins won't be opted in to MP right now. If you are opted in to MP and want to sell coins.....open a new account to sell only coins (that is ebay advice).

lots going on in the coin category but I do not sell there
recently a member had a problem with some gold and it turns out that seller protection does not extend to gold with paypal.
paypal does not cover items bought for resale either

Ebay is forcing us into the new system. How do you use Paypal for ebay items?

When you look on the new list of prohibited items coins are listed. The rep said if I try to list coins the listing will be rejected.

It will be rejected in a MP account........ Opening a new account will preserve PPal as handling the money. IF the new account has 50% or more prohibited (in MP) listing types, the account will not be switched to MP UNTIL Mp is able to handle the coins/prohibited items. That has been stated by Ebay more than once............

Please read or reread, as the case may be, Message #3 above.

Well -- it's not my area of expertise, but I inherited some US silver coins and proof sets earlier this year after the death of a relative. I have listed some of them and sold most of those listings.
I will keep listing those coins until eBay tells me I can't. And if I have to open another account to (try to) sell the rest here, so be it.

Hmm -- guess I'll have to start taking photos and listing one or two coins at a time -- this week.
Maybe with the national election news, people will start feeling optimistic and loosen the purse strings.

I'm in MP and have some coins / currency from family estate which I cannot list.
Reading this post, is the suggestion that I need to create a new eBay account and use PayPal to get around being blocked for selling coins / currency?

" . . . to get around being blocked . . . " is misleading. The suggestion to open a second account is nothing nefarious. It's a perfectly legitimate option and one that has been suggested by eBay staff until such time as coins might be allowed to be sold in the Managed Payments program.

Hilarious. If this was even close to true then cell phone sales would have been banned long ago.

Thank you for your help! I havent seen anything about a second account as you are suggesting. I searched Community for "coins", "Prohibited items" and anything else I could think of to find information. Where do I find what "has been stated by ebay more than once"?

I have suggested it for anyone who does not want to use MP currently. You can open a new account for a variety of reasons and just start using the new account to sell everything.
