Who Thinks Ebay Will Give Up and Go Back to Using Paypal

Over 20 years on Ebay, and have sadly watched it deteriorate into a professional and foreign seller playform instead of the once great bargain place for individual to trade with other individuals.

When they implemented their Managed Payments so they can get paid their fee sooner by taking it out of each paying before you ever see it, they allowed existing listing to remain active.  Today they sent a messages stating that unless one sign up for MP their existing listings will be purged on 6/15/2021.

Who thinks they will find many people like me that just don't sign up for this new way of doing business and they end up going back to Paypal with their tail between their legs?

I have zero confidence in Ebay's security and could not imagine giving them access to my checking account, nor do i think it would be smart to ship before receiving money.  And having worked in banking settlements for decades it is astounding to see them take 7 days to process a payment when ACH industry regulation is 2 business days.  One top of their higher seller fees they are earning float on your money!  Greedy **bleep**s!

The new business model is to create the illusion of a competitive site with individual sellers offering their wares, while actually forcing those sellers out to be replaced with larger business that use completely different seller channels that undermine the original purpose of eBay.

They do not need PayPal to perpetuate this scam.

It's not a choice, lol. People keep insisting that it's a choice, when it's not.

When PayPal and eBay split back in 2015, they had an agreement in place to continue processing seller payments. Now that the contract has run out, either both parties or at least one of the parties declined to renew the contract.

There is no going back from that...

Alright, community. It's time to come to action. We have another one that needs some correction. I'll be at the bar if you need me.

  • Managed payments is NOT new ... eBay started implementing it in 2018, about 3 years ago or more.
  • I believe that more than 80% of sellers are already using Managed Payments. Most of them are just fine with it, and haven't complained along the way.
  • I expect that the 15-20% of sellers who are left are the small sellers, who haven't qualified to be invited before now. If they choose not to join, I expect there will be lots of sellers willing to take their places.

Re: Who Thinks Ebay Will Give Up and Go Back to Using Paypal

EBAY spent millions coming up with the managed payment system so to get their investment back MP is going to be around for some time.  I have turned into a buyer for now.  I just can't get past the idea of giving EBAY access to a checking account after enjoying the benefits of PayPal for all these years.  I hope the cyber hackers don't decide to go after EBAY now that the new financial and personal information required on millions of sellers is a possible target.   Giving EBAY the financial information and control over my money would take all the fun out of selling for me.  Good luck to everyone on MP.  EBAY, you can bring back Classic View and PayPal for sellers anytime you want.

Nope, not going to happen.  eBay will never, EVER admit their mistake.  Too pigheaded.

I don't think anyone said it was. What is new is that now everyone is FORCED to use it.

"I believe that more than 80% of sellers are already using Managed Payments. Most of them are just fine with it, and haven't complained along the way."
Speaking for others when one has not been elected to do so is questionable. Belief is never valid currency.

You mean like back in February with 14 million eBay / Amazon accounts were hacked and then sold online on the dark web?

Right.

And there are federal regulations about the timeliness of ACH deposits for banks. But eBay, since it's not a bank but wants to just play one on TV, unfortunately doesn't have to abide by them.

Maybe it's time for a federal regulation regarding the payouts made by Marketplace Facilitators.

Seems to be the thing right now, doesn't it? First the Colonial Pipeline, now JBS. Only a matter of time before eBay is frozen by hackers like these were, or, worse yet, is broken into and raided for all the delicious information it has on millions of sellers worldwide.

You would be wrong  Americans are the only ones being forced into it and Americans are not 80% of this site  lol

"eBay managed payments is currently available to a select set of sellers in the following countries: US, Germany, Canada, UK, Australia, France, Italy, and Spain. We expect a majority of sellers around the world to have transitioned into managed payments by the end of 2021."
