Who Thinks Ebay Will Give Up and Go Back to Using Paypal

Over 20 years on Ebay, and have sadly watched it deteriorate into a professional and foreign seller playform instead of the once great bargain place for individual to trade with other individuals.

When they implemented their Managed Payments so they can get paid their fee sooner by taking it out of each paying before you ever see it, they allowed existing listing to remain active.  Today they sent a messages stating that unless one sign up for MP their existing listings will be purged on 6/15/2021.

Who thinks they will find many people like me that just don't sign up for this new way of doing business and they end up going back to Paypal with their tail between their legs?

I have zero confidence in Ebay's security and could not imagine giving them access to my checking account, nor do i think it would be smart to ship before receiving money.  And having worked in banking settlements for decades it is astounding to see them take 7 days to process a payment when ACH industry regulation is 2 business days.  One top of their higher seller fees they are earning float on your money!  Greedy **bleep**s!

EBay's new payment processor - which is hidden - is Adyen. They cannot go back to using PayPal.

Eventually, eBay will be a place for large merchants only.

I would not be surprised if they soon charged a yearly fee to all sellers that they know casual sellers can not afford to encourage them to leave entirely.

The pie has already been cut into slices and you and I do not get any of them.

I hope what you are saying isn’t true. Or how small is small. But you are correct. The little guy who does spring cleaning and wants to sell some junk in the garage, ebay is no longer that place. I have been able to evolve and roll with all the changes in the past 20 years. I still consider myself to be a small seller at 20k per year. But I think big enough to keep going.

There are problems happening but eBay will do something to overcome those. Just wait patiently.  When everything working well, I think new MP is not bad. It is good.

They didn't split. Ebay is the parent company for PayPal. Paypal is subsidiary of eBay.  Two separate entities, connected but operate separately. They can keep their new payment option, but I don't see why they can't have an OPTION to PayPal instead of forcing sellers to just one. It definitely has something to do with impressing the investors, they way they can see more gains coming from just one company.

PayPal had access to your checking account, too.

I have friends who prefer Ebay's Managed Payments over PayPal.

PayPal makes you eat their 2.9% fee for returns and cancellations. Ebay's MP does not. End of discussion.

They split FIVE YEARS AGO.

eBay for large merchants only is a complete myth.  I'm a very small (even smaller than I am here) seller on Posh, and closet clean, etc.  They have their own payment system which is processed by Adyen. The site is filled with closet and house cleaners.  No problem.

I am also leaving ebay as a part timer seller few items a year.  I used to be regular big time seller 20 years ago, but every year fees increase without telling.  I sell $10 item I get like $4 after shipping costs.  They keep taking taking taking.  When I first started it was very cheap fees 20 years ago.  As such, I kept using ebay less and less.  Paypal would double dip fees just like ebay.  Lets stop using ebay and wait for new platform like a craigslist that doesnt steal 50 percent of your selling item.  Plus many products on ebay are low quality now.  Move on to new platform.  No one uses ebay to tell u truth.  I live in silicon valley and work at software company no one buys on ebay anymore.

Exactly. Too much control for eBay. Too much risk for sellers. Too little reward. Poshmark does MP, I believe and from the reviews I have read, it is a complete nightmare for sellers.

Actually PayPal does NOThave access to my bank account. Yea, initially they did as it was required in the early days but I closed the linked bank account and did not add a new one.  That does men I have to pay $1.50 and wait to get a pap r check out of them but am happy to pay it so that they can’t just withdraw my savings accidentally or to settle some dispute in their favor. I usually just spend down the balance rather than withdraw it anyway.
Since MP continuously skims their fees be then deposits into your bank that is no longer an option.  They clearly have attempted to circumvent federal banking regulations by calling themselves a payment system as opposed to a bank but I think they are doomed to be sued as holing payments for 7 days that the banking industry clears in 2 days means they are holding a cash balance of your money and that makes them a Bank!  I see two choices for them.  Expedite the payments or face the full regulatory compliance to make their system comply to us banking laws.
mom a positive note, I think they just opened themselves up to competition form a new auction site that is more like the original EBay.  Isn’t evolution and capitalism grand. They grew out of their original mission and so now something will take their place.  I am not signing up for MP unless I find a bank that lets me keep a $1 balance in a no fee account.  Could always list through a friend if I felt it was worthwhile but generally only list to give others great deals and keep things out of the trash.  Win win.  Those days are over.  Almost always find the same sellers on Amazon for the same price with much better customer service from Amazon in the event of a problem.

"It's not a choice, lol. People keep insisting that it's a choice, when it's not."

Of course its a choice. There are always choices. Selling on eBay and continuing with Paypal might not be one of the options, but there are always choices 🙂

"PayPal had access to your checking account, too."

Incorrect. You did not even have to have a bank account at all to use Paypal.
