Answers to a previous question about bank account verification indicate to me that apparently changes have been made that I'm unaware of. I mostly buy, I haven't sold something in several years and it's only been sporadic and relatively less expensive items. I've been on eBay probably around 20 years, I don't even remember what was involved in setting up payment/receiving money. What are changes in eBay requirements to sell?

eBay sellers no longer process their payments through PayPal. The payments go directly through eBay in partnership with a company called Adyen, as "Managed payments". This means that eBay needs your payment-processing information including the bank account where they will deposit your payments, and probably your Social Security number, because they must report to the IRS if they process more than $600.

"No longer process their payments through PayPal" - this isn't computing. What does this mean since PayPal is still a form of payment on eBay? When I make a payment it still brings up a paypal applet, still shows up on my paypal account activity. What "managing" is ebay doing?

A buyer can still pay with Paypal but that money is sent to the sellers checking account through Managed Payments.

Best answer.

Sorry about the confusion. Buyers still have all the same payment options that they can choose to use, including credit cards, PayPal etc. But PayPal is not used by the seller's account when processing the payment. You won't even be aware that PayPal was involved (from the buyer's side). Nothing will show up in your PayPal account, though the payment will show up in the buyer's PayPal account if they used PayPal.

Sellers used to have their own PayPal account so when a buyer paid through PP the money went directly to the seller. That is no longer an option. Now you have to have your own checking account set up to be a seller. It's called managed payments and run through Adyen. Many of the other online platforms are also using this system. You should spend some time reading the link above for managed payments if you want to sell anything on here. Best of luck to you....

Yeah, the next 72 hours should be a record breaker for tax filing questions.
