Just saw a video about it by Rockstar Flipper on Youtube. He showed the screen that a buyer now gets when they want to make an offer, asks what payment method they want to have (immediately) charged if the seller accepts. Apparently it's in Beta so it won't happen with all offers. The thing that really surprises me is this: if they could figure out a way to take immediate payments for offers sent in this direction, why haven't they done it in the other direction (where a watcher-buyer accepts an offer made by the seller, but then gets days to pay)? If anything that should be the easier one, since the approval is made by the party who will pay, in real time, so why can't THAT trigger an automatic payment screen?
Anyway, hopefully the buyer-to-seller offer immediate payment is just the first and the other will follow, and just in itself it is incredible news, honestly I am kind of in shock, and I don't know how (or why) ebay apparently kept it secret until launching, but it's the biggest seller advantage change I've ever seen, that's for sure.

LOL, TOO BAD! NO SOUP FOR YOU!

Too bad about what?
You asked why there weren't posts on this topic, so I linked the existing posts which include information about this being a test for a limited number of buyers, which answers most of the questions in your OP. Those linked threads also have an eBay rep that's following them and taking feedback to the dev team to make improvements.

There have also been many individual posts referencing the test process within threads about unpaid transactions. I've posted about it a bunch of times, and I've read the posts of others who have, too.

I'm surprised people still follow him.
There have been post about it, from both, buyers and sellers.

Already old news.

I still don't get why the OP yelled at me. 🤷
Ms. Havisham, I think some people glance over thread titles on the first page and if they don't see what they're looking for they don't bother looking at the second page or using the search box.
Ken, I'm surprised anybody ever followed him.

Yeah, I got the reference. I don't get how it applies here.

It is an old Seinfeld reference,
(season 7, episode 6)
When I typed "Auto-Pay" in the search field looking for other related discussions, system suggested "Autopsy". Sorry, that falls under too funny!!!

A few years ago I was in one of his FB groups and it was loaded with a bunch of **bleep**.

Who the Rockstar Flipper? Oh I definitely don't, but I do watch various reseller videos now and then so random ones come up in my suggested feed, and the title of this one was just too compelling to ignore.

I thought you were joking, like as soon as this launched buyers would be complaining about wanting combined shipping and stuff, so I joked back, like how the soup Nah zee would cut people off if they tried to make any little request or whatever. Just a misunderstanding, sorry.

So, I still have not been able to find anywhere whether this also makes offers sent by sellers and accepted by buyers require immediate payment. Anybody know?
