Did you mean:

We couldn't verify this card. Please select a different payment method.

Trying to add a credit card in Payments section of Seller's Account, eBay's system is telling me to pound sand.  Been like this for almost 2 weeks now (and there were threads closed from users having similar issues in April).  This is very annoying.  Tried 2 different cards, system can't verify either one.  Fees and postage were directed to bank account when the credit card was in there.   Deleted card, trying to put it back, won't verify.   Called CC company, they said the card is fine (and they are right).  Right on Christmas too.   Why?

Talked to 3 eBay reps via text chat, all three couldn't solve the issue but tried as well as possible and issued a report and to not worry.  Yeah......anyone having similar issues or am I the Lone Wolf here?  Thanks.

Okay, so I bought something and eBay's system took the card there.  Now it is back in the Payments section, but when I click "Manage", and then the switch for "Preferred for Selling Costs", it says "Please check the use of your credit card and try again".  Why won't it take the Preferred for Selling Costs default?  Why?

Re: We couldn't verify this card. Please select a different payment method.

Are you trying to set up a credit card to pay your ebay fees?  You can't do that. Ebay does not want to pay fees to credit card companies, that is why they started Managed Payments. It's extra money for them.    They immediately pull their seller fees from your payment.  THIS IS THE ONE THING THAT I ABSOLUTELY HATE ABOUT MANAGED PAYMENTS!  I can't earn cash back now on my ebay sales.  The credit card should be a backup to pay for something like a buyer return and you don't have enough money.

Yes, this is the issue I am talking about for outstanding balances.  eBay's system isn't allowing the switch due to a glitch (rhyme time) that has to be fixed.  I hear you about the fee issue.

Did you try signing out and signing in again?  How about using a different device like a tablet or a laptop? Did you try a different credit card?

I don't know if you know this but if you set your ebay shipping to use PAYPAL to fund the label and then you get your cash back that way.   Also for buying, I use a  paypal account that only has a credit card linked to it so when I buy, the only choice is PAYPAL linked to my credit card.     My selling funds are NEVER EVER touched for an ebay purchase.

Ask them to verify that the card is fine for that particular use. I just had a case the other week where I was trying to set up my card as a payment method for something and it kept getting declined. I knew the card itself was fine because I had literally just used it for a purchase not half an hour before. It turned out that for whatever reason, the temporary authorization charge that the system tried to make to verify that my card was valid was being flagged as fraud and so it wasn't going through. Once I cleared things up with my CC company, the temporary authorization charge went through just fine and I was able to hook my card up with no problems.

So do you think this is what is going on?  eBay is issuing a temporary authorization charge for verification of usage and the CC company is declining it as fraud?  Plausible.  I'll recontact my CC company about this and see if this is the case (I already contacted them once, but never knew this process).  It is very frustrating.

It certainly could be. In my case, it was a $1.47 charge just to test the card to make sure it was valid before accepting it as a payment method for the service. For whatever reason, my CC company arbitrarily decided it was a fraudulent charge and was blocking it from going through (which meant that my card couldn't be added as a payment method because as far as the service could tell, it wasn't a valid payment method). Once I verified with my CC company that it was in fact a legitimate charge and that it was me trying to make that legitimate charge, they removed the block, the temporary authorization charge went through, and then I could add my card as a payment method.

Re: We couldn't verify this card. Please select a different payment method.

I contacted my CC company a second time and they said it is not on their side----we did an attempt together, and they did not read any authorization amount ($0.00) from eBay for card verification.  They said to contact eBay.   LOL.   I did that too, yesterday----eBay's reps said that other users were reporting the problem.  I seem to be the only one in the Community though, at this moment.   But your explanation was very helpful.

Re: We couldn't verify this card. Please select a different payment method.

@ms.rodriguez*  your answer that eBay started managed payments to avoid credit card fess is incorrect.

@shado-x

eBay requires a checking account for managed payments payouts. ADYEN is processing the seller's payment and no payment processor doing that commercially does it for free. But that's eBay's problem or business how eBay and ADYEN settle.

After you attach a checking account then you must specify a payment method to pay for seller fees that aren't taken from the payout.

What does that have to do with the credit card in file for outstanding balances not recognized on the eBay system.  You see, there is an icon (like a left-right switch) to default the CC that won't work.  That's the issue, and that should not be happening at all.

Re: We couldn't verify this card. Please select a different payment method.

I have no idea why it isn't accepting your card. You say it's  the card on file but if it's  not accepted then it's  not on file (as the method for seller fees). It has to be accepted before it's on file.

A credit card used on eBay to pay for your purchases that eBay saved isn't  automatically the card attached for seller fees.

Did you follow the steps in the link? It says you can choose to use a credit card, a debit card (except a prepaid card), or your linked payout bank account.

Can you help with this issue? Is this a glitch and needs a ticket?

Can you give some examples of "outstanding balances not recognized on the eBay system?"

Can you post a snippet/screenshot of what you're seeing? The above  verbiage is structured so it's unclear whether it's the "switch" that doesn't work or the credit card that doesn't work . . .

No your not alone.

I've bought on eBay for over 20+ years with the same and only Credit Union account I have now.

This is my 2nd Month at selling.... I finally  Sell something  and NOW my Credit Union isn't good enough.

The banner says they can't verify my account and to choose another bank. I don't have another.... I'm not getting another.

My takeaway as a new seller is... maybe I should go elsewhere.

it's irritating that I put so much time and effort into this.

eBay isn't shy about making sure they get their money. They better figure out how to get me mine before we part ways.

Some credit unions do not play nicely with accepting online payments for whatever reason. You may need to check with your CU to make sure that the routing number you are trying to use is the correct one for online payments, because for whatever reason some credit unions have different routing numbers for that sort of thing.

But if you are having issues with it and eBay it is almost guaranteed you will have the exact same issues with any other selling venue.
