Using person checking accounts for payments will end small sellers using ebay

I have been buying and selling on ebay since 1998.  I do not have a business that sells on ebay, I just sell the occasional item like my kids' used musical instruments.  I am currently trying to list my daughter's French horn which is about $2000.  I discovered that the only way to get paid now is to provide ebay with my checking account.  That will never happen.  Requiring bank account information will kill individual sellers on ebay.  When I am on ebay trying to buy something, I am looking for an individual selling items they no longer need.  I am not looking for a company selling their products as a business.  I currently have a balance of less than $100 because a couple of months ago I sold a difficult to find Vitamix switch.  It sold but that money is sitting in my account with no way to get it.  I can't use it for credit on any purchases and ebay will not put it in PayPal.  Clearly ebay is trying to merge into an Amazon model and get away from people like you and me buying and selling their stuff.  I hope ebay reverts back to the previous model and allow small sellers to continue.

I think the point is there are millions of Casual Sellers [no store] and they sell every now and again.  Each transaction done on Ebay is a business transaction.  There are no personal transactions done on Ebay.

Running a business on Ebay doesn't mean that you do this on a regular basis.  There are sellers of all walks of life and sizes too.

Bottom line, if you are selling on eBay, don't matter if you are signed up with a business account or not, and does not matter how many items you sell or how often, any selling on eBay considered to be a business transaction.   Income needs to be reported no matter the level as well. There is no such thing as a hobby seller, really never was. If selling here does not work for you, there are other sites that may be better suited for you. Yes, I too liked PP, but that ship has sailed.

However it is important to keep in mind that just because you should be claiming your sales on your federal income tax reports does NOT mean you will owe more in taxes.  There are exceptions, but you still have to claim the income and learn the rules specific for these things.  Schedule C of the IRS forms and the guide.

What are "managed Payments" besides ways to delay payouts?

MP can be very difficult for Casual Sellers [no store] to transition into.  Especially if they have only sold on Ebay.  They are use to the flexibility of Paypal which is simply NOT how other money processing programs work.  Paypal is the unicorn here.

All other larger sites like Ebay have had their payment programs in place for years.  Ebay is the last of the larger sites to have theirs.  They all function pretty much the same with few exceptions.

I respect that this change is difficult.  This year Ebay was consumed by getting 19 million sellers onboarded to MP.  So it is my hope that we will start seeing some enhancements that we like next year.  Fingers Crossed!!!

It's a way to keep selling here and getting paid.

It has nothing to do with delaying payments, that's just the way the program works and so do most other payment processors.

Have a great day.
