I made an offer on an item last night. The offer was accepted. I received an email to pay for the item. But when I click on the button to pay, I receive a message: "This item is gone but there's more to see." On my ebay home page, I'm still being informed to pay for the item. When I click from my home page, the message comes up that the item has been sold. It's not listed in my purchased items. And the "pay now" message is still on my home page. I emailed the seller to see if anything odd is happening on their end, so I'm waiting for their reply. Has this happened to anyone else? Any solution?

eBay has a new thing where multiple people can accept an offer but the first to pay gets it.
Might be what is happening here.

eBay made a change to the best offer process and an accepted offer no longer becomes a sold item. It remains available for purchase by another buyer until paid for. See the yellow tip box in the how to make a best offer section of the help page below.

Those items stay up for sale even with an open offer. So, the first to pay gets the item. Unless the other buyer fails to pay, you have to just find another.

If you click on that "pay now" button, you should be able to pay for it.

I received a reply from the seller:
"Hello, I’m not really sure what happened. When I accept a persons offer, I always figured it was locked in, as if no one else could purchase it. About an hour ago I got the notification that the item sold and I just figured you paid. However, it was someone else. I’ve never had this happen before so I do apologize. I would cancel the other persons order, but if I did that I would get the strike on my account."

It's unfortunate the seller isn't aware of how it works to be able to inform you, but it is the first buyer to pay wins! The other thing to be aware of is... if the seller sends you an offer & you accept you have a few days to pay before the offer expires, at that point you are no longer able to receive offers on that item from that seller. But during that time anyone can still pop-in, buy and pay for the item and take it away from you.
BTW, this is never a reason for a seller to cancel, this is how it works....pay ASAP to get the item secured.

anything listed on ebay is subject to sale or the seller ending it at any given time, including auctions a seller can click on it and end the auction at the current bid anytime they desire.
what happened in your case is someone beat you to it. offer or no offer/////
