Beware scammers who advertise on other sites and tell you that the transaction will be handled through eBay.

That is not how eBay works. eBay does not rely on users finding ads on Facebook or other sites and sending contact information to a seller. Likely the seller will send a phony "invoice" that appears to be from eBay but is not, asking you to pay with gift cards to have the vehicle shipped to you for a free evaluation period.

eBay has no warehouse and does not ship vehicles. eBay does not handle such transactions or provide "vehicle protection orders". Scammers often promise those things, though. Any phone number you may receive on such an "invoice" does not connect to eBay, but to the scammer.

Anyone that asks you to purchase gift cards or to send card codes to them to complete a transaction is trying to take advantage of you. Anyone asking for a gift card is looking for a gift at your expense. Once anyone else knows the code, your money will be gone and you will have no recourse.

The only way to purchase a vehicle on eBay is to sign in to eBay, find the vehicle on eBay and complete the checkout process on eBay, so that the item appears in your Purchase History. Then you typically meet the seller to inspect the vehicle, pay the seller, and collect the keys, title and vehicle.

If you encountered an ad on another site, contact that site to have the ad removed. eBay is not involved with any ads listed on sites other than eBay itself.

You found the listing on another site and ebay doesn't do any type of handling of purchases made elsewhere.

Do NOT send money and do NOT respond to an invoice that may come to your email.

2002 Toyota Tacoma's do NOT sell for $800.

2002 ANY CAR that is running/driving does NOT sell for $800.

Not even a Flat Bed Trailer sells for $800; with 2 tires, 1 axle and 2 taillights.

You were at least smart enough to come here and ask.

Don't send those ebay cards.  You'll lose the money. You've probably sent it by now, because the scammer told you to scratch off the codes and send them the picture.

SIGH!

How do people keep falling for this?

Your NOT buying a truck. Your being SCAMMED by a liar and thief.  eBay does not work like that.  Only items listed on eBay are eBay sales. They never assist in sales or payments of items on other sites.

Where did you find this Tacoma listed?

Did you buy the gift cards?

Did you send the gift card numbers to the seller?

You are being scammed.  Buy a car outright from a local, credible car lot or dealer.  I personally would never buy a car on the internet...not these days.

Of course it is to STeaL FROM YOU.

Report it were you found it.

If you sent photos of gift cards scratched off you are out the money man. It is gone.

too good to be true.  SCAM!!   You make one payment direct to Ebay through ebay, not 4 $200 payments to someone outside the system.

I wouldn't encourage sellers to pay on eBay.

Many listings require a down payment via PayPal in 48 hrs but buyers should know  that deposits and  payments on vehicles are ineligible for protection. Non refundable.

Therefore I wouldn't encourage buyers to pay on eBay.

To be eligible for VPP the buyer, the seller, the vehicle. (on the purchase date),  and the financial institutions making and receiving the payment, are all located in the US or Canada.

However,  PayPal isn't a financial institution they are a payment processor. A bank and a credit union are financial institutions.

It is always best that the buyer examine and inspect the vehicle themselves before paying because even if the listing is on eBay you can still get scammed. Vehicles are not returnable.

Looking carefully at the "order number", I have a hunch that this is simply one of those CL, FB, OU type motor vehicle scams, maybe with a new twist.

IT's a scam.  Do NOT buy it. There is NO Tacoma.  If you want to buy a car on ebay go to Ebay. LOOK at the feedback. Buy ONLY from sellers that have alot of feedback. Personally, I would never buy a car without seeing it but if I had to buy a car, it would only be from a reputable dealer that ONLY sells cars .  DO NOT SEND THE MONEY.  DO NOT EVEN RESPOND TO THE EMAILS OR TEXTS.
