Can someone please tell me why you were allowed to sell antique and vintage coins and paper money on eBay but are not allowed to do it under the managed payment plan. Hundreds of auction houses in the world sell these items every day. Does someone out there know the reason?

Possibly because the payment processor is an International company and many countries have rules against receiving bullion, gold, silver, (coins or other) etc. from other countries, and ebay is an International 'venue'.
Many coin and currency dealers are not in Managed Payments, rather still using PayPal.
The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.
Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

EBay’s new external payment processors have imposed their own restrictions in certain categories that eBay currently needs to accommodate. As for why, as another poster mentioned, there are international laws and regulations regarding the import and export of coins and paper money that must be addressed, country by country. Ebay has said they are working towards making those categories compatible with its Managed Payments system, and that this is a temporary situation. Sellers who primarily deal in coins and currency are not yet required to join MP.

As mentioned by others, the playing field is not level. Only those who had previously sold coins are now allowed to do so. At one point, small sellers could list items on eBay, but with MP, those days are gone. Same with cars. EBay motors is no longer available to sellers who were forced into MP. Kind of a shame to see the decline of eBay.

You are correct when you say "forced into MP". I was forced into it and was not told I could not sell coins or paper currency. I was not even aware that you could not accept PayPal payments. I want to opt out of MP. Is there a way besides leaving eBay or creating another account? I already have two and don't wish to have one more.

Could be they are worried about money laundering? Lots of people collect coins and bank notes. Does seem a bit strange.

Concern about money laundering? When you sell ancient Greek and Roman coins? I doubt it.

The system used by eBay is in a different country than the US:
The laws of that country are different than the US:

I was forced too & I hate it. From everything I've read, we can't get off MP. A few people were able to transfer back to PayPal when MP first started. Since then I haven't found anyone that's been able to go back to PayPal. It's unfair that some were allowed to stay on PayPal & the rest of us weren't given a choice.

As far as I know, more people use PayPal than any other method of paying for online purchases. I know I always use PayPal for all my online purchases. I think we (and eBay) are going to lose a lot of sales because of this. Does that make any sense? Just because eBay is no longer connected (or owns) PayPal, it should not be a reason to not offer it as a payment method.
