Problem with buyer's payment

I sold an item and tracking shows it was received.  The buyer has now opened a request saying it wasn't received.  I entered the tracking number showing delivery.  In the comments section, the buyer wrote that he was charged twice for this item, once through PayPal and once through his bank.  Is this even possible?  There is only one way to pay when you check-out and you can't choose 2 options.

Nothing has happened in the case so far even though it was an INR case and I entered the tracking number showing delivered.  Is there a way for me to help him if he was charged twice?  I don't want any surprises down the road.

Re: Problem with buyer's payment

The buyer was most likely not charged twice. Many buyers have their bank account as their backup funding source for Paypal, so when the Paypal balance is low, there is a bank transfer to Paypal and then a payment to the seller from Paypal. Many think this is two charges, but it is not. It is a lack of paying attention to how things work.

Re: Problem with buyer's payment

If charged twice it would show up in your payments section, as ordered two of the item or two different sales. Did you recivee two orders for the same item???

As already said it is unlikely such was done:

Re: Problem with buyer's payment

Really good description of what may have happened.  I haven't seen this personally, but I can relay this message to the buyer.  Thank you.

As above, he's probably looking at a PayPal payment that was funded by his backup funding source. I suspect he's filing an Item Not Received because he thinks he bought two items (by mistake, anyway) and only received one.

As you have uploaded the tracking number showing a Delivered status (to the City and ZIP received with the payment, I trust), there's nothing further for you to do, though in this case maybe sending a gentle word of explanation might help him to understand what happened.

Re: Problem with buyer's payment

No, only 1 order.  I did upload tracking.  Does that take a day to process?  The case didn't close immediately.

@a_c_green  I did send a message to him, pretty much word for word @heckofagame said.  Hopefully this will help him.

@evry1nositswindy

The buyer was only charged once.

If they look at the Pay Pal transaction, it'll show the funding source was their bank account and not their Pay Pal funds.

Have a great day.

Liar.  Tell them that's something to talk eBay about, you have zero control over their payments.

Re: Problem with buyer's payment

He was a local buyer and mentioned the bank name.  I used to work for that bank and told him to go into the branch and they can explain it to him.  I will not refund him!

Does it take a day or 2 once I upload the tracking for the case to close?

I think so. In the past, general advice was to upload the tracking number as requested, then phone Customer Service and ask them to close it while you're on the phone.

eBay has said in Weekly Chats that the phone call is not officially necessary, and CS' reputation in general is such that you don't want to ask anything semi-technical of them, in case they end up awarding everything to the buyer by mistake, so I would suggest that as you have done what's expected already, you now let the response window time out, at which point it should close in your favor.

@a_c_green @kensgiftshop @donsdetour

I need help!

The buyer closed the INR dispute but opened up a payment dispute.   How in the world is this possible to blame an eBay seller for this?  I didn't charge him.

 has filed a payment dispute outside of eBay about an order that was placed on Dec 30, 2021. This means the buyer has disputed a charge directly with their payment provider. They are requesting $29.97 back and the reason for this dispute is that the buyer was charged twice

Re: Problem with buyer's payment

I read through the help page on this and I really don't see how I was charged twice for the item is a choice they can make.  How in the world would a seller be able to charge a buyer twice when we don't even handle payments??

Have you contacted the buyer and explained that they were only charged once for the item?

Have a great day.
