Payout or Payout Eventually?

I’m not a super duper seller or whatever, mainly because it seemed a huge discouraging pita, but I’ve had an account in good standing since 2002 or so. Got the eBay notice about new payment system etc. And the fun began:

It wasn’t clear that by acknowledging that email I was immediately disabling PayPal payments ahead of time. But that’s what happened. So oops, had to ship an order on faith until I got a bank account. Which I did, entered info, all set up and good to go...haha

So it’s last week and I really need money by today. Item sold, yay! I usually pay shipping but USPS has been a nightmare so I put it on buyer...yet the $70 item that went for $78ish altogether w/shipping netted me a whopping 68 bucks BEFORE the shipping label. But whatever, it’s eBay. All boxed up, shipping paid and j in the mail Saturday.

Here’s where my naivety entertains the managed payment crowd (we’re all stuck w/managed payment now right?)

See I ridiculously thought if I added a bank account, linked it to eBay,  and paid shipping online I could get my payments as fast as I always have. Nope. Looking at it on Saturday my next scheduled payout day was Monday. I guess digitized financial transactions need a day of rest too? Whatever. Fine, Monday. My doc appointment isn’t until 3pm (pst) so rather tight but should work out (I know, funny right). Yet today there’s no deposit and my next scheduled payout day is tomorrow. I try customer service and even try getting out of the robot loop and contact an eBay rep (yes, keep laughing). They’re just...not doing that. Probably a smart precaution considering. So I took their “suggestion” and searched discussion boards for an answer. It bring my only option and all.

So, here’s what I’ve got. Correct me if I’m wrong:

-Payouts will happen whenever eBay ultimately decides to. Delays can be put off on myriad different unprovable factors (buyer payment issue, account info discrepancy, bank delay, just cuz). So aside from Sunday when I’m definitely not getting paid I essentially have to just check daily and wing it financially until eBay deposits the cash? I’d rather get told next weekend and gave it be true.

- If my payout was only a couple days late I’d probably still be lucky? Judging by what I’ve read so far.

Is there any recourse besides waiting to see if/when eBay chooses to deposit the money I was paid? I appear to be paying around 8% of the sale price immediately, then shipping, then another 10%ish invoice fee every month. Is this somehow right? Seems like the only way to make a profit is to be a huge seller with a bulk shipping discount (or one of those sellers that wants $20 shipping for a $10 item).

P.S. one possible factor occurred to me: when eBay tried to bill the invoice it was still trying PayPal and declined. I figured that got covered when I was led into disabling PayPal for deposits but apparently not. I promptly updated but still hasn’t charged.

Any help would be appreciated. I looked it up myself as much as I could but maybe someone more eBay savvy, (or an actual eBay customer service rep even, though if we can’t make contact for then to service us then I’m not sure what they do) could help without requiring any significant effort on their part.

Thanks

Re: Payout or Payout Eventually?

Unless you have a payout denied you should get paid..

And it aint PP were they floated payments to you instantly:

You get to wait until it clears (payment) and then the time you set for payments, then the time of the ACH has with your bank, and you bank as well.

Crazy stuff but you can still make money using it.

Re: Payout or Payout Eventually?

Gotcha. I used to think it was sketchy having payments go thru PayPal when eBay owned PayPal anyway. Better than all thru eBay apparently. I think I figured out part of the problem: I updated my payment method for monthly invoice fees and all that but eBay didn’t recharge after I updated. So I made a one-time payment (which unfortunately took it from my remaining accessible bank funds rather than the pending sale balance. Didn’t offer the option this time). Now the funds are no longer “pending” but still sitting there. I guess maybe they’ll send it tomorrow...but between eBay and the bank it can take a few days and they’ll blame each other etc. So I’m thinking theoretically eBay will do payout tomorrow...4 days after sale. Then whenever it posts. My only other payout since the new system went thru same day though.

I feel dumb about this but I really can’t tell the difference between items I sell w/free shipping and the ones where the buyer pays: either way I get $10ish less than sale price and have to buy the shipping label regardless. Aside from the buyer paying eBay more for shipping I can’t discern the difference. Then the monthly fees that are getting phased out sort of? Seems like eBay gets paid several times per transaction. Buyer pays 0.0725% tax. Seller pays percentage plus invoice fees. Getting what little money left in a timely manner already kinda sucked. I don’t mind paying some to avoid dredging thru Craigslist but I’m lucky to clear 85% of sale price.

Re: Payout or Payout Eventually?

I just checked with my bank and they have no record of declining my payouts from Ebay. However, since Dec. 25th, 2020 I have had 6 payouts that didn't go through to my bank, which eBay claims my bank declined. This would seem to be an issue of the utmost importance, namely me getting my money from Ebay, but there is no access to customer service whatsoever. How convenient. This nonsense has to stop!!

Nothing has changed on my end information wise. Same bank, same account information. So what is going on?

Have you been asked to update info??

Also on the payouts make sure the last 4 are the same as you have on your account.

Re: Payout or Payout Eventually?

Agree. I posted a couple of days about the same topic. It is taking an average of 5 days after payment for the funds to hit my account. I must believe that Ebay is generating a substantial amount of money via the use of our money, even for a few days. Does anyone actually think that Ebay isn't having this capital work for them. Figure about 200 million Ebay users worldwide. That amounts to serious money even if just 1/2 have made sales with their payments being held in an Ebay account. Ebay can invest this money in T bills for a few days and make a tremendous amount of money while at the same time passing nothing on to the seller for the use of this money.  There is a thing called the time value of money and Ebay is making use of it. Additionally, charging fees for doing so....a double whammy. Ebay needs to either compensate sellers via reduced transaction fees or deposit the money a hell of a lot faster than 5 days. After all we as sellers are expected to ship items within a couple of days. Ebay should at least hold themselves to the same standard and deposit our money within the same time frame. We are expected to ship sold items with the money transaction being completed. At least with Paypal funds were deposited instantaneously.
