Payment failing when logged in, but succeeding in guest checkout?

Hello,

I ran into a weird issue this week.  I attempted to buy something on eBay on two separate occasions and was given an error stating "We can't process your payment. Please select a different payment method or check your payment details."

I double checked both card and billing address to make sure they were correct, but had no luck.  My card was even authorized on both these occasions, but the purchases still failed and the authorizations were reversed within hours.

Tonight, on a whim, I tried to buy the same item using the guest checkout feature.  Same card, same billing info (literally autofilled from browser, so it's letter-for-letter the exact same).  The purchase succeeded first try.

Is this some kind of fraud prevention or buyer protection measure on eBay's part?  Anyone experience something similar?
