The Unites States of America and the state legislators make the rules.

I would send them a strongly worded letter - or just accept life is life, taxes are taxes and the government always wins, then move on............

State taxes are charged every time a car is sold, new or used.  The same car can be taxed 3+ times, every time it changes hands.  Property taxes are paid twice a year, every year, on the same property.   Thrift stores charge tax on used items.  Auction houses charge tax on used items.

That would be a good question to ask the ones you vote in, in your state.

Have a great day.

Actually ''Taxed Twice'' is pretty much a generalisation too.

1.  I pay income tax on my earnings

2. I pay sales tax (GST) when I purchase a service or non essential goods

3. I pay more tax when I import goods

4. I pay more tax when I sell something for a profit

5. I  pay a tax levy for health services

All of that out of my already TAX paid earnings, go figure..........

No,  it is the corporate lobbyists who write the rules that are presented to the legislators to pass as laws.  Basically the legislators are told that if you want our money to keep your cushy highly profitable job then you either pass the laws that our guys have written or you can face electoral defeat.  And that is how a very wealthy senator from one of the poorest states can veto legislation that would actually benefit the vast majority of his constituents.

...tax to death...

...a single person without house payment (so no interest to write off), no children (so no child tax credit), middle class income, all to see nearly 30% of paycheck is paying tax (federal, not counting state yet)...only collect 52 cents from every $1 earning overtime and, if working up to penalty overtime then only 35 cents...

...no more overtime and penalty time...

(I can keep going on about this matter...but...I don't want eBay's KGB knocking my account...)

If your idea were put into practice, then every store would "sell" it's inventory to a straw man for 1 cent, buy it back again for 1.1 cents (the .1 covers the straw man's sales tax), and then re-sell it tax-free.

This is exactly why sales tax is a tax on the transaction, not on the item

What the heck is "penalty overtime"?

No one pays a 65% federal tax rate.

A 1968 Camaro at MSRP, selling every 4 years would net almost $14000 in taxes over a lifetime, 4 times the SELLING Price and 45 Times the original taxes paid.

Such is life....

Here is a brief news article (real news) about the history of sales tax in your state. Your sales tax law dates back to 1966, and there was an earlier sales tax law in 1935.
