I converted my business from a Sole Proprietorship to an LLC in 2021. A change like this requires a new EIN from the IRS. In the first week of January, I did the business interview forms and updated my EIN number to reflect the newly formed LLC. Later that month, eBay generates 1099 forms for 2020 and lists my new EIN number for 2021. Obviously, this is going to cause issues on my 2020 taxes because that EIN did not exist in 2020. I've spent countless hours with eBay support who just transfer me around and offer no solution. I'm simply needing my 1099 corrected to reflect my business status and EIN for 2020.
For any of you who are in this situation with a new EIN - WAIT until you get your 1099 before updating this information. Other marketplaces I deal with were able to get it right the first time.
