Need Advice - Managed Payments and Shipping

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Managed Payments has thrown a big wrench in my shipping policy.  I used to ship within 2 business days of receiving payment. Now, I changed it to 3 and am wondering if I should change it to longer.  Been on the phone all morning with eBay and my bank trying to get what the process of this whole thing is.  eBay takes 1 - 2 days to go from pending to available. Another day to go to "sent funds to bank".  Then onto the federal reserve before the bank. The bank says that takes about 1 - 2 days. And when the funds appear on some sheet at the bank, they take that day to put the funds into my account.  And all of this is without problems.

I would prefer for the funds to be in my bank account before I ship, but that would mean at least 5 - 7 days before I ship.  I'm uncomfortable with the length of time and am concerned I might get bad feedback because of the length of shipping time.  eBay insists that I will get paid, period.  If the bank has a problem and is not receiving the funds, eBay tries again.  If it doesn't work, then the bank needs to fix whatever problems they have.

My question is:  do you guys ship when the funds say available?  If not, when do you ship?  How many days do you give yourself?

I ship same day or next business day for most of my orders. The best way to print shipping labels is via eBay charged to PayPal that is linked to rewards credit card. I print all of my international shipping labels thru Pirateship because it is a lot cheaper. Again m Pirateship shipping labels are charged to a rewards credit card. I pay my credit card off every month to avoid paying interest. I end up with 2 to 3 free plane plan tickets per year.

When it says to ship I ship.

I do not wait on payment to clear to the bank. 

Keeps the metrics up.

I ship when Ebay tells me to ship. (This is my buying account.) That happens as soon as the buyers payment reaches Ebay. When they have the funds they tell me I can ship and at that point I know that my bank will be getting the funds in the near future.

I can use those pending funds to pay for the shipping label from Ebay so I do not need to wait for the money to show up in my bank before buying a label. The funds may not be 'available' to me at that point to spend on other things but they do allow me to buy the shipping label that way. The main thing is that Ebay will say when they have received the buyers payment. You are not expected to ship before that happens.

I ship with 1 day handling and have since Aug........no problem with getting funds.......  You will need to check the box at the bottom of the label page to have the shipping funds paid out of "pending" funds......

Bluntly, I think you are overthinking this....... you can extend shipping time, etc.........but give it a chance to work for you before buying trouble.

I ship as soon as possible after the buyers pays, just as I do when I was receive payments in PayPal. 

Why would I subject a Managed Payments buyer to a longer shipping time while I waited for a payout to clear?

It does seem I may be overthinking this.  I just didn't want to ship an item when I don't have the funds in my bank account.  But it seems that the consensus is the funds will be in the bank account sooner or later.  I guess I'm so used to the instant payment of Paypal, then ship, that I feel a bit discombobulated with this new payment system.

I guess because if you don't get the funds, you're out the money, shipping supplies and your item.  But it seems that the consensus is the seller will get the money sooner or later.

In order to use managed payments, you have given eBay pemission to do two things:

1) to put money in your bank account when they are supposed to; and 

2) to take money from your bank account when they are supposed to

IMHO if you don't trust them enough to do the former, you probably shouldn't have given them permission to do the latter 🙂

I ship with pending payments within 1 day.  Never been a problem for me.

Yes. The point is that when Ebay tells you to ship it is because THEY have the funds. The buyers payment has cleared.

It still takes a few days for the funds to get to your bank but they are telling you that the buyer HAS paid so you should ship. You can also pay for the shipping label using those pending funds so you do not need to wait for them to arrive at your bank.
