Managed Payments Issues

Recently, I enrolled in Ebay Mangeed Payments for sellers because the indicastion was that my selling acount would be limited if I did not switch from Paypal to Managed Payments. I have been very disappointed and frankly, I feel defrauded by Ebay, because I still have not received funds in my account from a sale 3 days ago. I miss Paypal, when I transferred the funds to my bank account myself, and the money was available the next day. I would like to hear from other disgruntled sellers and discuss ways around this inferior system.

Managed Payments Issues

Those of us who never voluntarily made the switch will be forced to in order to continue to sell beyond E-bay by Feb. 15th. I have been selling on E-bay on and off for 20 years. I am currently looking for an alternative platform(s). I like the set-up/reporting of PayPal and don't someone restricting access to my money. I am a 100% feedback seller, but I am well aware a small percentage of buyers can be shady. They know policies and will exploit them to the fullest. Changing to managed payments gives them another avenue for them to abuse sellers.

Ebay is phasing sellers in.  So you are in the group that needs to register by 2/15.  They aren't just picking on you.  It is a big change.  And as with any big change it is always hard.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.  But just a tidbit.  If you decide you are going to give it a try, don't wait until the last minute to register.  If they need any additional information from you then you could end up having payments held up because the registration process wasn't complete.

Could you please share the "workarounds to certain elements" of managed payments? Thank you.

You will need to be a bit more specific.  What is it that you need a "workaround" for?

Managed Payments Issues

I try my best to ship same day if paid for by 12 noon, my time. I occasionally miss a sale on other accounts because I somehow missed the email notification and it ships out a day or two late. Poor service on my part though no one has ever complained.

Hard to guess whay your seller did not ship right away.

I have read of buyers cancelling their orders during the "pending" stage.  The buyer gets refunded from the seller's payment account.  It's unclear if the seller is left taking the loss? Does seller protection cover losses when items are shipped before funds are deposited in seller's bank.  The chances of cancelled items being returned are slim to none.  You can't blame sellers for extending handling times.  I don't think ebay realized this will not only kill off ebay's Fast & Free goals, but slow down shipping considerably.  Not exactly a winning strategy when Amazon has set customer's delivery expectations at 2-3 days!

I have not received a dime from eBay and they owe me over $600.00. I've tried calling for a month now, and nothing gets resolved. This is despicable!

You are wrong. I put everything in correctly. Ebay showed all my transfers as "completed" into my account, and nothing goes in. They owe me over $600.00 that I have been waiting over a month for. I became so frustrated that I tried to change the checking account for the money to go into, and I get an error message saying my existing account has the wrong account number. The account number is not wrong, and that error message keeps me stuck from changing the payout account. So there ya go.

this power play to handle our money is a joke for us.,they have probably millions of dollars for days and hold it .big time profit for interest. i have always had access to my money with pay pal..the instant transfer to my debit is how i pay my bills and get food..i sold a item on the 24th.now today the 26th they say it will take 2 to 3 more days ..this is bull...my money not theirs. the least they could have done is use a debit system like paypal .not checking. i dont like my funds and transaction in my bank ..wrong on every level ..we are independent sellers .not employee's i am really mad that my sales profit is not available for days.i am going to fight this!!! MAYBE WE CAN START A PETITION TO STOP THIS.. DEBIT CARD TRANFERS OR LEAVE US ALONE.,

@coolcarcrafts

Absolutely.  Buyers sometimes do that, but there is a distinction here that you are missing.  A buyer does NOT have ANY ability to actual cancel a transaction or a payment.  NONE.  Not in Ebay, not in MP and not in PP.

A buyer can REQUEST a cancellation of a transaction and then it is UP TO THE Seller to decide if they can honor that request.  So if the seller agrees to honor it, then the seller knows not to ship the item or they should since it would be the Seller cancelling the order.  The seller will ONLY have a loss if the seller isn't paying attention to what they are doing or agreeing to do.

With that said, when a seller processes a cancellation and refund of a transaction, the seller gets their FVFs refunded but not the 30 cent transaction fee.  This was the same in PP.  So there is no change here in or out of MP.

I don't blame ANY seller for extending their handling times and you will not find ANY post where I said that.  It is each sellers choice.

Seems you just need a bit of a better understanding of the process.  Your fears stated above are non existent.

I couldn't agree with you more.  The customer service for sellers having issues such as yours is beyond horrible and certainly unacceptable.

Now don't get upset with me.  I'm going to suggest some common issues that you may be able to resolve on your own without Ebay.  If it isn't one of these, the unfortunately you do need to keep calling.  Call as early as you can in the morning so you get in the queue for that day, would be my suggestion.

  1. Make sure you birth date is correct on your Ebay set up.
  2. Your primary address can NOT be a PO box, it needs to be a physical address.
  3. Your name on your Ebay account must PERFECTLY match your bank account you want to attach without the least little exception.  If you have a middle initial on one and not the other, that will be enough to cause you issues.  They must be perfectly matched.
  4. Verify your routing number and account number before entering it.  Review it carefully on screen before committing it.  If you have the need to correct your routing number or your bank account number, clear the field FIRST.  Then re-enter the numbers.  Sounds unimportant, but it is something that can make the difference.
  5.   Verify that your SSN, EIN or TIN is correctly entered, no dashes, just numbers.

Slow down, I never made ANY claim to know what is wrong with your account.  I simply offered you some things to check as there is often a mistake in one of those items.  You can check each point carefully or you can ignore me, it doesn't matter one little bit to me.  I was simply trying to help you, seems that isn't something you are really looking for, so sorry I replied.

Sellers have to wait to get their funds but Ebay deducts order cancellations, holds , and disputes immediately.  If a buyer asks to cancel an order from Friday afternoon through Sunday nite, the cancel will show as refund  on your Monday disbursement and be subtracted from your proceeds but you will not be paid for the initial sale until Tuesday.

You have just become an unwilling lender to Ebay. Ebay is using seller bank accounts to float cash for free.

We have discontinued granting cancel requests issued from Friday forward until Monday afternoon to abate this. It is not the service we want to give but , its also not good business sense to refund something you haven't been paid for yet either.

Couple of things.  It is the SELLER that determines when or if to process a cancellation of a transaction and/or payment.  So it is the Seller that decides when to actually process that cancellation.  If you don't want to process it on a weekend, then do it on Monday or Tuesday.  Let your buyer know you will take care of them but it will be early the following week.

Can't Lend money or earn interest on money that is literally not there.  It takes 1-2 business days to clear a pending payment.  That means it takes 1-2 days to get the funds from the funding source.  So until the payment clears, there is literally no actual money from that transaction in your account.

Similar to when you make a deposit directly at your bank.  There is a clearing period.  During that period you do not earn interest on that deposit [unless you deposited cash] until the deposit clears the funding source.
