Managed Payment User's Feedback: Has the change increased or decreased your business?

I would like to make a sound decision concerning managed payments.  I would be interested in knowing the experience of those who have switched to managed payments.  Has the switch been beneficial to you?  Has it increased your business or decreased your business or has your business stayed the same?  ie What are your thoughts?  If the moderator sees fit to remove this message immediately and bury it in the appropriate back woods,  I will assume that the moderator knows the answer to this question and he does not want the answer to see the light of day.

I've noticed, that a lot of people, dive into business without a solid plan for conducting that business.

The overall MP system concept is a solid plan. eBay's concept of using the MP system leaves a lot to be desired.

AS it is now, I will not be joining, till some non proprietary questions are answered.

I don't need/want my advertising department dictating to me how and when I will be paid for using their advertising services.

Re: Managed Payment User's Feedback: Has the change increased or decreased your business?

I had to switch on July 7th, so I'm about 5 weeks in. I'm probably a medium volume seller, and it's very rare that I have a day where nothing sells. I haven't had a day yet when I didn't have a payout. They usually are in my bank account (KeyBank) the next business day. The day after Labor Day was the first and only day that my payout didn't arrive the next business day, and that is not eBay's fault. My sales are up 20%, but that has nothing to do with MP and everything to do with the 14 hour days I've been putting in over the past week. The first 4 days in MP was the worst of it, because I didn't have any available funds, and that meant no payouts. To make matters worse, they tell you when your first payout will be, but neglect to tell you that you won't get anything that day because you have no completed payments yet. So that day comes and you get nothing but a new next payout date, which you also may get nothing on. After that, it's business as usual. I use my Citi Double Cash credit card for all of my shipping and other business expenses, so I don't really need instant access to money from a sale. I would have to say that softened the transition for me. For me, MP is just fine. I do however have to say that this will not be very good for all sellers. If you don't get regular sales, you will be constantly waiting for a payout. I've also seen posts regarding sellers being unable to purchase postage because they don't have any available funds. As I said previously, I use a credit card for everything so I have not and will not experience that. I can certainly think of some ways for eBay to improve this. Among them, give sellers an option to instantly transfer available funds as they could with PayPal. They could charge the same 1%, and I'm sure they would make a lot of money from it. One thing I really do not like is that they hold funds when a return or resolution case is opened. As if that weren't bad enough, when you issue the refund on the return, they don't use the held funds. You have to have enough available funds to cover the refund. Within a few minutes the hold will say it's been released, but in my experience, it's actually several hours before those held funds are added back to your available balance. I really hope that's just a mistake which they haven't fixed yet, but even if it is, we already know how eBay is at fixing mistakes in their new programs. I won't be holding my breath while waiting for that fix.

How do you know this ? I can only see buyers pay not by what they use.

All i see when purchasing is a number of payments to ebay on Paypal - no idea as to what has been paid for apart from a code number which requires opening another screen in order to view it.

As for speed of operation - a long long ways short of the instant as performed by Paypal.

Re: Managed Payment User's Feedback: Has the change increased or decreased your business?

One more thing. Payments don't always take 4 or 5 days to clear. That is the worst case scenario. I had 3 orders on the 13th, and they have all cleared already. The funds from those transactions will be in my account Wednesday. That's 3 days from sale to having the money. A lot of people here talking bad about it haven't even tried it, so they have no clue what they're even talking about. I guess if they were really making money here in the first place, they wouldn't be quitting now. The real question is what do you have to lose by trying it, and what will you lose if you quit?

Re: Managed Payment User's Feedback: Has the change increased or decreased your business?

It's a simple yes or no decision.  There doesn't seem to be any middle ground. If you want to continue to sell, you need to join up and see if it works for you. If you are dead set against it, you won't be able to sell here.

I chose to stop selling here because I had too many unanswered questions about it. It was only one factor in my decision. Do not let other radical posters sway your judgement, you need to do what is best for you. If you "need" to sell here there is no option or decision to be made.

Worst case scenario is that you join up and don't like it. You will still be able to opt out at anytime by ending your listings and cancelling your store if you choose. Cancel any financial accounts started just for MP and revert back to a buying only eBay account if needed, or leave everything in place in case you change your mind.

Those posters that are on a crusade and trying to get others to join it should simply pick up their marbles and find another game. I met my needs by not signing up for MP, but don't think that is the right path for most sellers.  Best wishes to you either way YOU decide to go with this.

I know buyers are using credit cards because I have many buyers who have told me so.  Several have said they never bought on eBay because they refused to sign up for Paypal.

Re: Managed Payment User's Feedback: Has the change increased or decreased your business?

Many people on here are constantly saying ebay is holding on to their money.  Ebay doesn't have your money.  Your buyer paid with a credit card not money.  Ebay is waiting for payment from the credit card company.  When the credit card company pays ebay then ebay can pays you.  PayPal doesn't have your money either but they choose to let you have some of their money while they are waiting to be paid by the credit card company.  That is the choice of PayPal to give you THEIR money.  It is not your money.  When anybody in the world is paid with a credit card there is a PROCESSING TIME before the money shows up in your bank account.   ALL PEOPLE SELLING ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD have to wait for their money.  It's not just you that has to wait and it's not just ebay that makes everybody wait.   THE WHOLE WORLD WAITS 24 hours to 3 days for their money when paid by credit card.  The only way to be paid instantly is with cash that is handed to you in person.  Even if you took a check to the bank and deposited it in your account, most banks won't let you use that money until the check clears.  PayPal has spoiled you all and makes you think payment is instant.  Go find a site to sell on that give you instant money.  Maybe PayPal can tell you where that is.  If you need money faster than 3 days then you should give up.  Your business is a failure.  Nobody can run a business with no money.

Re: Managed Payment User's Feedback: Has the change increased or decreased your business?

Managed Payments is just fine.  The time you wait has nothing to do with ebay.  People are just used to PayPal spoiling them.  Even if your buyer pays with PayPal, many people paying through PayPal are still paying with a credit card that is linked to their PayPal account.  That way they don't have to give their credit card number to every site they buy on.

glad you like it but to many it is  @#$% !!!!! Ebay is not the ones out there looking for the items to list ! Kind of sick of the ones that can deal with mangled payments telling the sellers that cant function well with it that we are wrong ! You like it while many of us hate it !!!! More power to ya !!!

Yes we were spoiled by paypal that helped us conduct our business a heck of a lot easier than this hot mess called MP.  I like being spoiled.

Re: Managed Payment User's Feedback: Has the change increased or decreased your business?

At first my sales were the same. However Now that I have to wait for payment they have decreased. I can't reinvest as fast as Before it is slower. I started managed payments 6 weeks ago and I hate it. Everything is slower and the monthly invoice I print out from Ebay is so messed up not organized as before. My store contract ends in 6 months if things are the same as I described I will leave Ebay. Will pursue a lot of other venues.

Re: Managed Payment User's Feedback: Has the change increased or decreased your business?

I am being forced into managed payments next month. I am willing to give it a try before I decide to leave eBay.

I am successful on Etsy, where they have had managed payments for a few months and so far it is working OK for me, because I am able to adjust the payout schedule as necessary.

However, with eBay,  I have one seller account and 2 PayPal accounts ( business and personal). Currently, when I create my listing, I decide which PayPal account will receive the money.  With managed payments will I be able to use 2 checking accounts?  ( Business and Personal).  If not, I will need to remove at least 50% of my listings from eBay and place them on Etsy.  Or do I need to create a second Ebay account? Thanks for any insight....
