Is this a mistake? It appears I am being overcharged.

I just made my first sale under Managed Payments: a set of DVDs for $44.99 + $4.99 shipping.

I don't have a store, and my understanding is that ebay takes 12.35% of final value, which includes tax and shipping.

My sales record shows that the tax on this transaction was $4.12, and the total sale amount was $54.10

So far, so good.

Now here is where it starts to get muddy. Today, I received a payment (for this transaction only -- it was my only sale in the past week) for $38.23.

I paid an ad fee of $3.69, but there's no problem there as I opted for the ad voluntarily when I listed the item. (I don't usually buy ads, but this time I did.)

However,  I still can't for the life of me figure out why the final payment was only $38.23.

There were no insertion fees, as I never exceeded my listing limit (which was 50 listings per month at the time, including any prior listings that "rolled over," but my understanding is that it has now increased to 200).  I rarely went above 45 listings in a month, so there should be no listing fees.

The breakdown on my sales record shows a $3.69 ad fee and another $8.06 which merely says "Fees."

12.35% of the total sale ($54.10) is only $6.68 -- not $8.06.

Any idea where the rest of these "Fees" are coming from? Or is this a mistake on ebay's part?

Thanks very much in advance.

Ahhh, 14.35%. Thanks very much. That makes sense.

Isn't the "plus 30 cents" the insertion fee? Or in addition to it?

@duckweedseattle,

No. If you go over the 200 allowed listings with free insertion fees (or use a second category), the insertion fee is 35 cents per listing.

The final value fee has two parts; a percentage and a fixed fee. For DVDs, 14.35% plus 30 cents. Here's the policy  page that explains the fees. The 30 cent fixed fee is the same for all categories, so it's in the column header, which certainly adds to the confusion.
