Re: I want to opt out of managed payments

We opted out. It was really easy as we were forced into managed payments and we have been selling and buying on Ebay since 2006. All we did is close our store. Now we just use Ebay for all the screaming deals we are just recently finding for our own website. Plus i still like to visit the Ebay boards from time to time to see what's going on in Ebay land. We should have done this years ago. Thank you very much Ebay for the extra motivation 🙂

Re: I want to opt out of managed payments

Same here. Ebay was fantastic to start with but each year they keep adding or changing rules and features which mostly make life harder for sellers. The constant abuse of the returns feature is one of the biggest reasons we are at the end of our tether as well as the disputes process being completely automated in a cookie cutter type manner with 0 interest in case specifics or unfair feedback. Now, completely changing the payment system has urged us to find alternative options with much lower fees. Been trading on eBay since 2007 with over 7000 listings so its a shame but its becoming a much more buyer focused website and much more difficult to manage for sellers. I'll just use it for selling bits around my house.  I dread to think how much money eBay has collected from us in fees since 2007.

Re: I want to opt out of managed payments

It all depends on how one feels about all of the control over what you think is your own business. I don't think it is my own business, it's a store I have on Ebay, but my own business would give me control over communicating with customers outside of Ebay, would allow me to choose how customers pay, would not have what seems to now be a fee for everything including an international auction fee (I sell alot of movie posters overseas), and now a fixed auction fee. I have been with Ebay close to when it started, and for the first time I am looking into my own website and using all that fee money to advertise.

Re: I want to opt out of managed payments

Change is difficult, but we all must change quarterly with eBay.  I was opposed to it as well, but was 'opted-in' last month.  It is going smoothly and I really don't have any issues, which surprises me.  I know you and others don't want to hear it, but it isn't as bad as you think.  I got shut down in another thread for saying this because it didn't fit the narrative, but it isn't all gloom and doom.

Re: I want to opt out of managed payments

well I was assimilated yesterday... I paid all my current invoice charges to start with ZERO....  I figured that shoudl remain at zero as all fees and final value stuffs are taken out at time of sale correct?

However, this morning I see a charge in my Invoice that was not paid at time of sale... and there is ZERO way that I see to see deatils as to what this charge is for... is it for one purchase or many purchases?  there is no way for me to tell, unless I'm missing it?  I looked everywhere I could click LOL

Re: I want to opt out of managed payments

@exibar I haven't made a payment yet, but then again I never did.  It is set up to come out of my PayPal account.  Right after I read your post, I changed it to come out of my bank account because my PayPal now has no money flowing into it.  Thanks for posting!

Re: I want to opt out of managed payments

I didn't look at your listings. Are you using anything extra like Bold or Subtitles? That will still be billed to your monthly account along with store subscription if you have one and any listing fees if you go over your allotment of freebies. Not sure about cost of shipping label if you use FedEx or UPS as I never use them.

Listing upgrades such as bold titles is not covered in your Free Listing allotments.  Nor are subtitles as they too are a listing upgrade.  So you have always paid extra for those elements of your listings.

Also when you have to cancel a listing or sale, Ebay doesn't refund listing upgrades either.  You may want to reconsider using these as they add up quickly.

Re: I want to opt out of managed payments

I've been keeping a running tally of the Managed Payment fees I am paying eBay, versus the combined PayPal and eBay fees that I paid prior to Managed Payments immersion.  The MP system is costing me more money even if I include the PayPal fee on any applicable state tax.  I find it humorous that the early MP testimonies were that it was going to save sellers money.

The delay in payouts as well as the hold on monies for returns, etc. is unethical.  But who said a tech company was ethical.  I currently have a hold on just over a 100 bucks because a buyer decided to dispute a charge on their credit card on an item that they bought from me.  I guess that was easier for them then it was to simply contact me and ask if I would offer a return beyond the 30 day window.

If PayPal still allowed for the refund of fees when an item is returned or a transaction is cancelled, I definitely would want to revert back to using them.  But right now I'll chew on the old leather leash that eBay has me on and snap at their customer service minions when they get too close.

Re: I want to opt out of managed payments

Been a seller on Ebay for only about 6 months but it was going well. Everyone paid through Paypal, Ebay invoiced for their fees, I never had one problem. Shipping payments and Labels all flowed seamlessly through Paypal. It was all good. Now they ask for my SS number and Bank account info? Sorry but's Bye Bye Ebay...it's been nice knowing ya. Taking all my listings down ASAP. What a shame as it was so much fun. I think Ebay will lose millions of sellers and regret they shook the boat...

When we were switched over there was a carry over from the other setup.

Some things would show on the invoice that predated the switch over date.

Also as I understand it if a seller has "auctions" started before the switch over ending after the switch over the payment would go to PP, and seller fees would fall under the old method.
