Hello i am james from Chicago.
A friend first introduced me to Ebay 23 years ago. I became addicted right away. Within weeks, I started buying and selling.
Selling back then was difficult since getting paid was difficult. Then PayPal appeared.
Paypal, in my perspective, was what gave Ebay its magic touch.
I've sold intermittently for the past 23 years. I was planning to use Ebay as a source of money once I retired.
My opinion of Ebay has drastically declined in recent years.
They implemented their GOOD TILL CANCELLED policy for Buy It Now classifieds a few of years ago. The policy KILLED my sales of collectibles, which I sold. I made an effort to amend the policy, but Ebay wasn't interested. My sales were being managed by them, and it killed me.
I received notice that I would have to start making managed payments a few months ago. When I read about the programme, I couldn't understand how it would help ME.
Again, there was no advantage for me as a seller, according to numerous devoted Managed Payments representatives I dealt with. I made it very plain to every rep that I would leave Ebay the day they pushed MP on me.
I pleaded for a later date to be set. Now is not the time to spread Covid19 further; it is already a serious problem. They were unconcerned.
Sept. 1 was that day.
So, a close buddy I've had for 23 years has passed away as I sit here. I took down all of my listings and stopped selling on eBay.
Now I realise how little Ebay could care. Over the past few years, that has been crystal clear.
Ebay won't care if ten, one hundred, or a thousand sellers stop selling. However, Ebay MUST worry whether 10,000 or 100,000 users depart at some point.
By resigning and explaining my reason to eBay, I made a statement. Make your own statement if you share my sentiments. If Ebay is making sellers pick MP, it ought to be a better option than Paypal.

If you don't want to be paid through Managed Payments, that's your choice.
Not going to try to talk you out of leaving.
"Now is not the time to spread Covid19 further"? Not sure how/why you believe the spread of the virus is connected to Managed Payments. I could be wrong, but it seems like you may not understand Managed Payments very well.

82% of eBay sellers prefer managed payments. It isn’t complicated. Manage payments is a far better system for sellers and buyers. No one is trying to dissuade you from leaving eBay, but don’t expect those that remain to be as outraged as you are.

You are right about one thing, with over thirty million sellers, and thousands more joining every week, Ebay is not concerned with how many sellers leave, because they are unable to adapt to any changes such as MP.

Citation please. I'm not questioning this, just curious where you got your data.

I don’t understand how MP spreads covid?

Me either.

Don't know where you get your information but there is no way 82% of eBay sellers prefer managed payments.
I think only the big sellers like it...those that sell 1000's of items being like an Amazon seller of sorts.

Good Grief.
What the heck was Ebay suppose to do when Paypal choose to end their contract with them?
Paypal wanted out, not Ebay's choice. SO Ebay in it's wisdom picked the best and safest on line CC and Payment manager that they could.
BYE

Me neither. I did inquire of the OP and he has not yet explained.
Maybe he believes he has to physically show up at his bank to open an account to receive managed payments?
There are so many statements here that I can never figure out in a million years.
Sometimes it makes me feel like I am not all that bright.

You are correct. Managed payments is a flawed system that benefits Ebay. And many sellers are quite willing to put up with it because they have multiple listings. For small sellers? It stinks.
Despite having the "daily payout" option you wait 3 days to get your money into your bank account. Worse if you end your listings on a Thursday, because you might see your money on Monday. The 4th day.
We have seen many changes in Ebay since we became members in 1998. Some good. But a lot more that just hurt small sellers while they catered to mass sellers and businesses. Oh...and Ebay also.
We love reading comments from "newbies" that defend Ebay's practices...knowing that if Ebay developed a business model that predicted they would make just as much profit from just dealing with mass sellers and cancelling sellers with less than 5000 Feedbacks...they would do it in a heartbeat.

We all got spoiled with PP fronting our funds before the transaction was complete. For me, when I was selling, it was never a problem to wait a couple days for my funds,I never played it financially close to the vest anyway.

And those 'newbie' comments you see are from very experienced sellers using posting ids. You are not familiar with those? I didnt see any 'defense' of MP, just the criteria for using it explained.

Nobody does. And the OP has not yet seen fit to return and let us in on this potentially bad news.

Now is not the time to spread Covid19 further; it is already a serious problem.
I beat the Covid rush... I opted into Managed Payments during August, 2018. Happy to report that I'm still here. Good luck.
