It was so easy to do partial refunds on PayPal. I'm not a newbie, but I feel like one every year with eBay's multiple personalities when it comes to service. I'm about to just cut an old fashioned check and mail it to the guy snail mail, but it would be nice if eBay refunded some of my fee, the refund is $12.25. Anyone know what to do? It sold yesterday and has been paid, but hasn't appeared in my bank yet. Perhaps I should wait?

It's still relatively easy -- you just need to be pointed in the right direction.
Click on My eBay near the top right corner -- click on Selling -- click on Sold, and a list of all your recently sold items will appear.
Locate the item in question and to the right of the picture and title of the listing you will see an elongated oval that will say "See order details." Further to the right of those words, you will see a little "V" pointing downward. Click on that "V" for a drop-down list of options.
Read down that list and near the bottom, you will see this option: Send Refund.
In the screen that appears next you can select the reason for the refund from a list of options. You may choose "shipping discount" or "other adjustment." You also have a space where you can type a note to the buyer. You can then enter the amount of refund you want to give.
BTW, sure, you could send your buyer an actual paper check, but by doing the refund in these steps, through eBay, this is the only way you can get a refund of eBay's fees to you as the seller.
Hope this helps you!

Just curious--why would issue partial refunds? I have never done that in nearly 10 years of selling.

I just made one today
yesterday my buddie over in OH asked me about some crowns.I told him I woud give him free shipping
well he bought them and paid for them, sent me a text and said something about free shipping
well I charge $5.50 so I went in an refunded him 5.50 ,ebay only took about about 4.70 or so the rest was the FVF which all gets refunded now
he got back a refund of around $5.80 which included the taxes on 5.50 shipping
I guess what am saying is that ebay makes it right to the penny now and kicks the FVF part back in to the refund, then it gave my buyer his taxes back . its a piece of cake to just go the the order number and hit the drop down button and look for refund. you need to mention a reason and I did. shipping discount

Seller Hub/Orders/Paid and shipped (-or- /Awaiting shipment, depending...)
Use the drop-down menu to the left of the order to 'Send refund'. Enter the amount, Confirm and Submit. Easy-peasy!

Shipping discount for example. If all items are 'buy it now' 'immediate payment' there is no 'invoicing' etc.

I figured it out! Thanks for the tips. I'm not sure why I couldn't do it the first time.
and as for why a partial shipping refund, I meant to offer flat rate priority option and didn't, I'm in Maine, the buyer was in Oregon, the item was very heavy, but fit in a medium flat rate box. So I wrote to him and offered him the option, and refunded the difference which was $12.25. Trying to take care of the customer. If the buyer had been on the east coast where I am, it wouldn't have mattered, probably.
Thanks again.
