Help with shipping payments

Can someone please help me understand, as a new seller I was told I'd be charged the shipping fee up front for all the transactions, (the buyer is to pay shipping costs) then once my payment holds come off, the shipping I paid will be released back to me. I sold something the other day and instead of receiving my $51.xx payout, I only received $9.xx. Ebay said it was because of the shipping fees for items I had sent off, and they took the money from my available funds. Today I looked at an item that was released for payment and see that I was charged for shipping again but it was not reimbursed. Am I missing something??

Help with shipping payments

Shipping dollars coming from the buyer are all together with the item and are all yours. Then you pay for the shipping label. There is no reimbursement; you are either paying for the shipping from pending funds (eBay) or paying for them from a PP account (only 2 choices if buying labels on eBay).

Example
Item sells $20

Shipping $5

Sales Tax $2

Subtotal $27

Ebay takes the $2 tax

your left with $25

Minus $3.50 final value fees (using 13% on the $27)

Your left with $21.50

You pay for that $5 Label (if you pay via Pending Funds that $5 is deducted from the $21.50)

Your left with $16.50

"....I sold something the other day and instead of receiving my $51.xx payout, I only received $9.xx....."

I can't explain this, but if you click on the $9.XX payout line, it will itemize how they came up with the payment...

I can possibly explain shipping payments....You say "reimbursed" for shipping fees....

You are not reimbursed....ebay allows you to pay for your shipping fees from your "available funds" that are allocated to you.....so....explained quick and dirty

item sold for 51.00 (conditions are no sales tax and "free" shipping)

After processing, available funds might be around 44.00 (after FVF)

ebay allows you to use these funds to pay USPS for shipping...lets say it is one of your products that costs 20.00 to ship. You can print the label and "pay" for the $20.00 shipping from your "available funds" (reducing your available PAYOUT by $20.00) For this example that leaves 24.00 left for the actual payout (51.00 (-) Fees (-) Ship (=) payout)

@theobsessive1,

I'm sorry, but you have misunderstood. The part I highlighted in red above is not correct.

This is how it really works. The buyer makes the payment, which includes:

  1. purchase price
  2. shipping cost (as set up in the listing)
  3. sales tax (eBay sends to the buyer's state)

Your selling fees are calculated on the total amount of the buyer's payment, and subtracted from the total payment. The sales tax is also subtracted and sent to the buyer's state.

You receive the purchase price and the shipping cost, minus the selling fees. You have to pay for the shipping label from this amount that is in your payout.

If you buy the shipping label from eBay, you have the option to pay for the shipping label from your pending payments. In that case, your payout will include

  • purchase price plus shipping (paid by the buyer)
  • minus selling fees
  • minus shipping label
