Getting Paid

So how does everyone feel about this? Ebay has changed the payment system as we all know. With PayPal we would get paid right away and mail the items out. The new way we don't get paid for 3 to 5 days from Ebay.Maybe even more. Then it takes 4 to 5 days for a lot of banks to process a payment. This is what an Ebay representative told me. I have a lot of items that the new system has not paid me .So I'm expected to mail my items out without seeing the money in my account for over a week or so? Who does that in today's times? This seller isn't . So now the buyers are going to have to wait until they see the money before shipping anything out. It's going to make a lot of people upset and bad feedback ratings for me. The Ebay representative said that's my choice but it will hurt my ratings. No !! this is not my choice. You don't go into grocery store. Pick up your food and walk out saying I'll pay you next week. Thoughts?

Re: Getting Paid

If E bay wants to replace PayPal by offering the same services themselves, I can understand that. It is more money in their pocket, and I don't object to that in any way. In reality, My selling costs haven't been lowered because of the changes, as I was told they would. The increase to 14.34% on many "Media" items has more than wiped out the negligible savings it was supposed to bring. To adapt, I am phasing out those items and not adding anything from that 14.34% category in order to adapt to the changes.

At issue for me is that I wish they would offer the SAME services as PayPal. Along with the increased fees they are receiving, one would hope they have plans to pass along the benefits that PayPal had as well as the costs. It seems fairly out of balance currently. Items paid for on a Thursday or Friday mostly do not even show up the next week in my account. We all know that if money can be taken out as fast as swiping a card, it can go in, much, much quicker than it is.

If sellers increase their shipping times, or, as some have said, quit selling because they haven't gotten paid for items they have sold and are expected to now ship out of pocket, I understand. They are just Adapting to new circumstances.

Re: Getting Paid

I have been in Managed Payments since October 2018.

In my experience, it takes 4 days from when the buyer pays to when the payment (less FVF) is credited to my checking account. My checking account is with a major bank. When I was using my federal credit union checking account, it took longer than 4 days.

I have a 1-day handling time, and I have specified daily payouts since I am a low volume seller. When the item is in Seller Hub > Orders > Awaiting shipment, I ship.

Re: Getting Paid

@snowballscards

I walk out of the stores on a regular and recurring basis without the store having my CC payment. Same at the gas station.

Payment is not instant.  I sometimes see "pending" days later when checking my account.  PP spoiled us with the instant payment while they were still processing it.

I have been in MP for over 16 months.  Never had a buyer payment fail once it was confirmed by eBay/Adyen.

I have "weekly" payouts that are in my CC checking the next business day after payout.

My business model can handle the wait. I understand some sellers need their money quickly. All items are shipped within my stated handling time.

I just signed up and I'll be shipping like always, there's no reason to make your buyers wait longer for their items.

Unless you pay cash at the store, you know it takes them a few days to receive their payments.

What would you do if you paid using a credit/debit card and the cashier said you couldn't have your items until they received the money in their account?

Have a great day.

Re: Getting Paid

Ebay is effectively killing off the occasional sellers.  I sell my personal items sometimes (cds, video games, etc.) and have never had any issues.  I only have a PayPal account in the first place because I needed one to use Ebay.  PayPal worked well because it more-or-less functioned as another checking account and provided a secure service.  If that system was broken this would be understandable, but I'm not giving Ebay my bank account/ss number and I'm not going to open another checking account just for this purpose.  I'd imagine there are lots of others like me.  I will NOT be selling anything on Ebay from here on out.  I got the email that I have to update my account by May 21st.  I won't be updating and I'll most likely close my account altogether.  It's definitely my loss and I'll most likely stop using Ebay completely out of spite, but jumping through the hoops for this just isn't worth it.

Re: Getting Paid

I just don't see the problem. When you go to the grocery store and buy your groceries and use a credit/debit card, the store doesn't get their money until their payment processor  sends it to their bank. Should the store hold your groceries until the payment hits their bank?

When you transferred money from your paypal account to your bank, it took a few days to get there.. Ebay sends my money to my bank every Tuesday and it's usually in the bank by Wednesday or Thursday.

Re: Getting Paid

Yes, but grocery stores also don't only accept Jangle credit cards and require you to open a new account and be a cardholder in order to shop there.  It's not the time-to-payment that bothers me.  I don't want to have to open ANOTHER account in order to occasionally sell on Ebay, and I'm not going to.
