Did you mean:

Final value fee on shipping is just wrong

Ok - I know that this has been beat to death but it just irritates me to no end that Ebay does this.

You basically cannot sell anything heavy on Ebay without paying a 20+% fee.   If they are offering "discounted shipping" to help offset the fee, this to me means that they are just overcharging the buyer.  This is such a blatant cash grab that I have to remind myself to only use Ebay as a last resort.

Alright - rant over - just need to vent in case anyone is listening.

And no, I'm not just noticing this.  It's just when I get smacked with an extreme example of my seller fee almost doubling due to the high cost of shipping - it probably doesn't hurt to let them know that we still notice.

I agree with you 100% @syncrosurf ... Fees on shipping and sales tax drive up the cost or reduce a Seller's profit margin.  And yes, the heavier the package the worse it gets ... especially since the "discount" seldom covers the fee amount on shipping (and sales tax and at least that's what I find on my transactions).

If eBay really and truly wanted to help Sellers they would stop charging the Fees on Shipping and Sales tax.

And then we are right back to the penny items with a hundred dollar shipping.

I agree with charging the fees on the entire price.  It levels the playing field.  And stops the bull.

Re: Final value fee on shipping is just wrong

@luckythewinner   Moral of the story: when talking about eBay fees as a percentage, it helps to indicate that you are talking about eBay fees as a percentage of what

12.55% of the TOTAL; Always. Math is not finagled to make it work for you; Math is true science.

What about the 80% of sellers that sell with 'Free Shipping'? The 'shipping cost is already figured in the item along with the 13% (rounded) fee that is charged.

If actual shipping is $12.50; Shipping figured in price to customer is $14.13.

If you are NOT charging $14.13 to the customer; you are doing 100% incorrectly.

but there is no way they should be charging a commission on shipping.  They just do it because they can.

Why not?

Don't they process the payment and make it easy to buy shipping labels?

You think they should do that for free?

I guarantee that the buyer understands that it is a $170 item.

My complaint is when shipping approaches the cost of the value of the item sold. I just paid $20 on a $99 sale with $70 shipping. Sure seems like 20% to me.   I'm not talking about $6 shipping, I said you can't sell heavy things.   I think my rant is accurate.

Doc, he says, it hurts when I do this.

So the doctor says Then don't do that.

Yes well, there is that @justafemster ... BUT, eBay should have plenty of history on what should and shouldn't be reasonable shipping charges ...

Re: Final value fee on shipping is just wrong

So you expect ebay to police shipping charges too?  You're asking a lot from a venue.  We've already proven they can't even keep restricted items from being listed.

Yep it would be great for some: a dollar cost with 100 bucks to ship.

Don't pay eBay much that way would you......
