Final value fee on sales tax

I just found out this morning that sellers are charged a final value fee on sales tax collected. I am outraged over this! Just one more way ebay is hurting sellers!

Final value fee on sales tax

@bevsthisnthat

WE have been paying FVFs on shipping for over TEN years.  I'm unsure as to why some sellers are just discovering this.

"As well if you are using E-Bay shipping calculator when the final fees come along with your sale and you pay the fees after you pay your shipping you are at a loss with shipping fees."  If you use the calculator you have the ability to add a Handling Charge.  If you are not charging enough for shipping, then it is simply that the seller doesn't have the pricing set up correctly, NOT Ebay.  This is within your control.

If Ebay takes a deduction from your money for shipping, that is the choice of the seller to create that shipping label in Ebay.  You don't have to do that if you don't want to.  You are free to go anywhere you want to purchase your shipping labels.  Ebay has never been responsible to cover a seller's shipping costs.

"I put in the weight and box size into there freight calculator, Ebay says to the buyer it's $15.00 to ship so the buyer pays the item price and the $15 shipping + the $8.05 in taxes. So when you go to ship the item through Ebay they take the $15 away from you that the buyer paid, However you also get charge the 11.7% which is $1.76. So the $15 Ebay collected for shipping charges you the $1.76 in fees on that shipping charge, that comes from your proceeds."  Yes that is how it works.  If you want to cover your FVFs in the Shipping charged to the buyer, then you need to put in a handling charge into the calculator.  Some sellers choose to put the fees into what they charge for shipping, others increase their product price to cover the FVFs on the shipping.  Seller Choice.

It is called S&H for a purpose.  Shipping and Handling.  The CSR you talked to is exactly right.  There is no rule that the S&H you charge on your listing has to be the exact cost of shipping.  Nothing says that, that is a choice some sellers make, not a requirement.

"That just means Ebay will make more on the final fees as it charges more! Just another tactic to increase there margin per item sold! That's all it is is a financial racket."  It is important to understand that Ebay is a for profit company.  Offering all of us the services they do is what this business does.  It is why they exist.  It is their business plan.  There is nothing illegal or immoral about getting paid for services rendered.

Most sellers are highly likely to understand this process.  For some reason it is just now becoming clear to you.  I don't know why, after selling for so long, that this is all new to you.  It has been stated in the policies for years.
