Fees

I just sold an item and eBay said there would be no insertion or final value fee. The transaction was $40, yet when I went to my transaction a $5 dollar fee is showing. What could that be from?

You may have had no insertion fees, but everyone pays final value fees. You play, you pay on eBay.

@itselena66

You're missing a breakdown page in there....can you click on a Transaction Details for that sale? There should be *something* that shows what that fee is.

eBay hasn't charged me a random fee on my sales yet but after what's happened to me this past week I guess I wouldn't put it past them...

Did you buy a shipping label on eBay for it?

Shipping was $4.04. And I think it came out of my PayPal account.

$5.72 is 14% of $40.85.

If your buyer is registered out of the US there is a 1.65% higher fee for international payments.

12.35%  + 1.65%

Does not have to be shipping international, just an international buyer can trigger the extra %age.

Okay. Can I make it so people registered outside the US can't buy my stuff? Why does the one image I posted not show that I am paying a final value fee?

@itselena66

If the buyer has a US delivery address I don't think that they can be blocked. Back in the days of PayPal it was possible.

I have sold many items to buyers that have a US address, but use a "freight forwarder" to have their item shipped. I do not list with international shipping.

Personally I am happy to have the sales to those buyers, and as of this time (knock on wood) I have had no problems.  The extra 1.65% works OK with my business model.  PP had a higher funds processing %age for those buyers as well.

Not sure why you are also being shown "no fees".  Was that a "promotion" to have no FVF on some listings?  Maybe it gets charged, and then credited.  Customer service may, or may not be able to answer that question.

How did eBay inform you that you wouldn't pay a final value fee? "No-FVF" promotions exist, but they're very rare.
