First item:

all charges and fees fully refunded except the 0.30

second item:

an item was damaged in shipment and the customer asked for a partial refund. I agreed. The fees that were charged on the money I refunded were refunded to me by pp.

I understand # 1, They have been known to do that if it is done before the payment is processed.  But two is a fortunate occurrence for you.  They did change their policy.  Unless they have some special reprieve right now due to the Pandemic.  IDK why you were able to get that refund but I'm glad you did.

I don’t know the current banking laws admittedly but I would that just doesn’t sound right.
I as a merchant or seller would never agree to those terms.

if I were a person experiencing that I would search around on the www and see if It’s even legal under banking laws and if so see if it’s common practice. That’s just crazy,

PP does not adhere to "banking laws".  PP is not a bank, they are a money transmitter.

Ok,

I am always in favor of changing views when presented with correct info. And........ The MP system is as bad as I was led to believe. Sure, Paypal gave my funds to me QUICK and then I transferred to my bank QUICK. If I could do the transfers via Paypal virtually instant into my bank, then the same could be accomplished with eBay MP. So, Im not buying that excuse for waiting on funds because its a bank transfer, blah blah, blah, .

That weird excuse aside,  MP is actually better than expected and better than all the weird stories I have read.

They dont want your password to your bank, as some have thought -  its actually encrypted. You have to provide accurate info and ID to verify its you ( thats good ).  I just started a SEPARATE checking account with minimal 25$ funds for this purpose. I didnt give them my main checking account. Makes it easy for tracking incoming/outgoing funds.  The fees from MP are fairly close to what I was getting from Paypal. Its just presented in a different way.  I had my first refund. It wasnt so bad. I will just always keep a small buffer in my bank account to cover the occasional refund.  Much mis info out there. Ebay reps dont do any service by not giving correct info as well.

The good thing is that I think many sellers were scared off. Also sellers with shady motives were scared away too. That leaves more eyes on my product. Not too bad. But I still think ebay is bad in general. Their policies and customer service rates 1 star. But hey, ..... it is what it is.

Excellent post!

You are correct on so many points.  Lots of mis-information out there to be sure.  Some from people not even in MP, other from sellers that are not informed and simply assume too much, others because misery loves company so they exaggerate to gain approval by others, etc.  So many reasons why people are more than willing to pass around incorrect or exaggerated information even when it can harm others.

And Ebay.  OMG!  Their lack of support for the single most important change they have ever brought to this site is irresponsible at best.  It is exactly why when I was notified I was going into MP back in late March.  I started reading and learning everything I could about MP before I went in.

Much of the updated policy pages came from my relentless submission of questions that had no answers.  It was a frustrating process because I got ignored a lot.  But in the end we are all better for my persistence.  Still we can't seem to get any of the MP members to the threads to answer question.  I do what I can because I feel badly for these sellers out there trying to get the real information so they can adapt and learn how to best use the system for their little businesses.

Whether a seller decides to stay or go has nothing to do with why I spend so much time on the threads trying to help.  I just think that a seller should be able to make an informed decision on what is best for them.  But to do that, someone has to arm them with the actual facts not gossip and assumptions.  It is simply bad business to make a business decision based on emotions, gossip and assumptions.  That can significantly damage some of these sellers financially.

So my only goal is to try and give the the information about the system and how it really works so they can make that decision for themselves from an informed position.

I was just invited and not given the choice to switch. Been selling on Ebay with PayPal since 2005. Went ahead and made the switch. Still have not been paid for items that were paid for three days ago. Lucky I have my handling policy set to three days. Hopefully I will be paid by tomorrow. Got four items to go out. I am wondering if this is Ebay and Paypal's way of reducing having to pay for fraudulent activity. Seems there's a lot more of that going on. This new taxing poor people for internet purchases is ridiculous! I realize there's some Trump supporters out there, but let's be sure to push Biden to end this taxation nightmare and tax the rich corporations.  Ebay and Paypal should continue to fight for us like they have been, but they also need to stop and think about the little sellers that made them who they are! We can't function having to ship items immediately when we don't get paid immediately?

Biden / trump, rich / poor, or fate is the same.

risk factor:

yes; it’s ebays way of passing all their risk factors on to you.

raise your cost? Only a little this time around. The effect is to make the sellers accept all the risks and liabilities on this round plus give up your control of your own business. Even more cost increases to seller are coming. Mark my words! Start building a bridge away while you can.

Hello Mam98031 -

Question. Re Promotion % fees.  Im promoting through eBay at a certain rate%. My question is, if lets say a previous buyer purchased my item a months ago before I used eBay promo service, then they buy again because they went to their history and found me, does eBay STILL charge me that % of the sale?

What if a buyer purchases my item under eBay promo, then purchases again a week later from just clicking on the transaction and re ordering, am I STILL hit with the extra fee for promo?

I only ask because I have a friend who I told to just type in my seller name and find me. They purchased and it seems like ebay charged my the % for that sale for PROMO listing services. I dont think thats legit. After all the sale wasnt made because my friend saw the ad via eBay promo, they bought because of "my" efforts to guide them to my ad.  I also see many old time repeat customers  who purchased and I am still am being hit with this fee. Even though they first bought and I wasnt even using eBay promo listing service.

Any input ?

If a buyer purchases something from you that you are running a promo on that listing, then Ebay is going to charge you the promo fee no matter how many times the buyer has purchased from you in the past.  Promo fees are not driven by whether or not a buyer has bought from you before but by the listing itself.  So if they purchase from a listing you have a promo on, then the promo fee will be charged.

FYI, in MP, the promo fees are NOT withheld from your payment received into MP.  The Promo fee is billed to your Monthly Seller Invoice.

Hello - Thanks for confirming.  I guess my issue now sits with the fact that prior to the NOV 30 switch to MP, I was often times not being billed -  under the normal account ( all selling fees page ) They didn't take out Promo/AD fee when the buyer didnt get turned onto my product outside of promotions. I have so many transactions for final value fee for buyer purchases, but NO AD FEE.  I do have some sales that show final value fee and ad fee during that time. Most are that way, but many dont have a ad fee for promo . See before 30th of NOV, ? The are CONSISTENT in ad fee, where as before 30th of NOV, some dont have an ad fee assessed to me.

I meant to write  that AFTER 30th consistent ad fee assessed for each sale,. Before 30th, sporadic for each sale.

My favorite part of MP is that while we as sellers can no longer accept PayPal to process our payments and get our money right away, eBay still accepts and suggests "PayPal is a convenient option for paying your eBay seller fees" as a way for THEM to get paid.  When I signed up for MP, I also changed my automatic payment method to charge my credit card directly, NOT through PayPal.  They want their money instantly, but we have to wait days now..  not gonna happen with me.  😄

Yes that is what I said in my initial post on the subject.  And the promo fee is set by the seller, not Ebay.
