Did you mean:

Ebay you still dont understand!

In 2004 you had the ecommerce market cornered and you blew it. You have never understood that charging people less to sell their stuff makes you more money. I just sold my first item in years. I accepted 135.00 and paid 55.00 in seller fees....37% according to the graph you provided. After i paid 13.00 to ship the remaining total is 79.00. Thats rediculous. I feel partially responsible for chosing to click the promote button but i was confused...i thought it meant instead of the normal 10% ebay fee i could chose to up it to 12.7 or even higher if i chose to get more exposure. It did NOT explain i would be paying $20+ for ebay fee and $20+ for ad promotion....on $135 sale? After tax the buyer paid $148 and after everything imy final net was $79. That insane.

I'm sure the shareholders/managers making bucket loads from Amazon would like to say a big thank you to those that were in charge of eBay back then. If it wasn't for their bad decisions Amazon would be a pale shadow of what it is today.

Re: Ebay you still dont understand!

You are not addressing eBay when you are here. We are members like yourself. We haven't blown it.

The seller fee is 13.25%  of the item cost for most categories, 15% for some categories. This is based on the item cost, sales tax and shipping. You are mixing apples and oranges when you add optional promotional fees as a seller fee.

Re: Ebay you still dont understand!

Although there is some logic in your statement...

"...charging people less to sell their stuff makes you more money..."

not all entities follow that business plan and ebay has determined they are in a sweet spot where they are right now and are unlikely to change that in the near future

"...I feel partially responsible for chosing to click the promote button but i was confused...i thought it meant instead of the normal 10% ebay fee i could chose to up it to 12.7 or even higher if i chose to get more exposure..."

It does explain how it works...actually, pretty clearly, too......sorry you missed it,,,,,,

following your "thought"...if the ad rate you chose was 2.5% did you think you were paying only 2.5% for the total sale even though you listed in a 13.25% category?

Re: Ebay you still dont understand!

So it's Ebays fault you just jumped into selling an item after a few years, without checking to see what's changed and what the fee's would be?

Have a great day.

Re: Ebay you still dont understand!

Re: Ebay you still dont understand!

Yes that is indeed what i thought. I thought if i wanted to get 10% more exposure i was supposed to set it to 20%.

Regardless....even if ebay charges 15%...i would have had to set the promotion number to 22% for them to take 37%? Seriously i still don't understand.
