Ebay payouts repeatedly failing - Ebay owes me a total of $4,703 for over a week now.

To make a long story short, I signed up for managed payments at the beginning of December, and received two managed payouts for wrist watches totaling around $650 and $700 no problem. Then, I sold a watch for about $1,200 on the 22nd and another for about $3,500 on the 23rd. Both have been immediately shipped, they have since been authenticated ( I didn't know the sub $2k watch would be authenticated but it was too), and are both currently on their way to their buyers, however the payouts for the last two watches keep failing.

Yes, I went to the managed payouts tab and made sure my info matches my bank exactly. I also checked the eBay "tax information" tab and made sure that info is good. I also re-linked my checking account, tried a second checking account at another bank, opened a brand new third checking account at a third bank, and all three of them fail. I managed to speak to three eBay reps (easier said than done I'm afraid) and the first one created a ticket and said this should be resolved in 48 hours. Didn't happen. The second rep was way more frank with me (much appreciated) and told me that is is likely a verification error on eBay's end and that it would take 5 to 7 days for the eBay's office to contact me as they have a lot of other requests. Well that never happened. The third rep just told me a ticket was open already and that there was nothing he could do to help. He did offer to do a call back in 48 hours but that time period has passed and I didn't get a call back. I went on the website today and requested a callback early in the morning with a wait time of 137 minutes, and that didn't happen either.

So right now eBay is holding nearly $5k of my money and I have no idea how or when I am going to get my money. Obviously this has left a very bad taste in my mouth. I am a small seller but I have been with eBay for 8 years and have 411 five-star transactions and never any issues. My primary bank said they don't see any rejected deposits and the issue is on eBay's end. Another user suggested that there may be a hold in place because these two items I sold are high dollar items, and this is plausible, but I don't see any hold warnings on eBay from the seller hub. So I'm just super confused at this point and I need this money soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

@jupicroco. I'm so sorry that you are having so much trouble.

I can only suggest that you keep calling daily and taking names.

The option to request a call back is turned off when the wait times become too long.  The best time to request a call back is 5am PT when they open

If you are using a cell phone be sure to turn off the spam filter as the call back may be blocked.

Same situation for me, it's been like this since December 14 😞 I don't know what else to do. eBay is holding 1.5k of my money at this point, all gathered from sub $100 items, so I don't think the "high dollar items" excuse is valid, they seem to just be either completely lost themselves with this managed payments situation or they are holding the money on purpose for some (very cruel) reason.

You are telling almost my exact experience as well. Although, Im out a lot less money than you. My money has been delivered 5 times according to ebays messages. Interestingly enough, every message gave a new delivery date. Still no money and can’t get through to anyone to help. Have you received anything yet and is anyone experiencing this as well? Still nothing and it’s been a month now, Very frustrating!

I am experiencing this and its frustrating to say the least.  I had a payment that said failed on the 14th only to have that payout disappeare on the payout list and a different date listed that it was sent.  When I talked to customer service (a miracle in itself) he denied that it ever listed a payment failed and that my bank was at fault.  I suggest everyone screen shot that payout list daily something is way wrong.  I opened an investigation through my bank.  We will see where this goes but I intend to pull out of ebay.  It's sad I have always had a great experience with them but this has been nothing short of horrible.

Re: Ebay payouts repeatedly failing - Ebay owes me a total of $4,703 for over a week now.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I got this issue resolved.

So that whole thing where they said the back office would call me wasn't needed (although the problem did take me 14 days to fix anyways). I kept requesting callbacks every day and by luck, I had someone from the managed payments department pick up the phone. He said the other agents I talked to had no idea what they were talking about (because managed payments is just so new a system) and the ticket they created was not needed.

Basically, he said ebay needed to verify my bank information because I reached a hidden seller tier or something like that (maybe due to the high dollar items I was selling at the time). I wouldn't have known they needed my bank information because there was basically no communication from ebay anywhere that stated that. It just kept saying payout failed over and over. He said there would be a banner than appeared in the seller hub under the payment tab, and thats where I would have to upload my documents.

The guy really seemed to know what he was talking about, and I do believe uploading the documents would have fixed my issue, however, I ultimately didn't need to do that step to fix my issue; because ebay was giving me bogus info and I didn't know how to fix the problem, I opened two new accounts with two different banks and I linked both to ebay and still had payout issues. So upon linking my original bank back to ebay, I had to wait 1 to 2 days for them to add that account before any banner would appear for me to upload any necessary documents. What is really weird though, is what once my main account was added again, payouts just started working again. So I'm not sure if that agent flagged my account and someone manually let me off the hook, or if ebays system automatically verified my bank and decided to pay me.

Regardless, I'll never sell on ebay again after this two week ordeal. I really needed that $5k asap and they held it hostage for two weeks. I can't justify doing business with a company like that.

My best advice for anyone that has this same issue is this:

First, make sure your payout information matches your bank information exactly. Some people have had issues with their payouts because of this. Ebay usually has you sign into your bank from their site and auto fills the info so generally this is not an issue, although some people have had simple stuff like a middle initial being present or not being present prevent them from getting paid.

Second, go to the seller hub page (just google ebay seller hub if you can't find it manually) and then go to the payouts tab, and see if theres any warnings or banners there asking for documents to be uploaded or anything else.

Lastly, and most importantly, call every day. Keep setting up call backs. I used to work at a call center myself for tech support and not all agents are on equal ground in terms of knowledge and experience. The first ebay rep I spoke to set up a ticket that I didn't need, and then the next two agents built upon that bogus foundation by just reading the first agents notes and telling me "oh the first agent made a ticket for you, all you have to do now is wait" instead of trying to help me. The fourth agent knew what he was talking about and seemed to have access to my account, and gave me good information. I hope you get your money soon.

Im happy for you.  That is a great platform to sell on, and their fees are not nearly as bad as ebay's.

Re: Ebay payouts repeatedly failing - Ebay owes me a total of $4,703 for over a week now.

I am an occasional seller on eBay. I've used PayPal for years. Today I received the dreaded mandatory switch to Managed Payments. I have no intention of giving eBay direct access to my bank account. I actually spoke to eBay customer service after beginning to delete my account over this and they told me that they were "replacing PayPal" on their service. The rep seemed completely stumped when I told him PayPal doesn't have access to my bank account directly, just my credit card. I don't think they did much of a competitive analysis of how folks use PayPal and just assumed a very narrow prescriptive usage model.

I have been waiting for my payout for three weeks now with zero correspondence. I sold a bracelet and now have no money for it! Like you but not nearly as much.

You have zero feedback as a seller. eBay has a 30 day hold when you are a new or infrequent seller.

Re: Ebay payouts repeatedly failing - Ebay owes me a total of $4,703 for over a week now.

If intend to sell here the law requires eBay to have your ssn and eBay requires you to have a checking account for payouts.

If you sell something before you get on board with that then you will not be paid. The money from your payout will be sent to your state as unclaimed funds.
