Ebay is holding my money hostage. First they said they didn’t have a payout option, so I provided them with a bank account number. No hesitation to charge my fees, they did that immediately. The funds did not go through. I provided them with another bank account number. Still no payment to me. Now they are demanding my SSN to receive my funds. This is it for me. I waited 7 hours yesterday just to get a return call about this mess. No Chat available. No email available. I am waiting again, today, for another return call. I do not want to do business with a company like this. I have been a seller and buyer since 2003 and this is the end of the road for me. Also, let me mention that because I would not accept a return 15 years ago, Ebay placed me on a “No Assist List” unbeknownst to me. I only found out when a buyer wanted to return something after the 30 day period, claiming it didn’t work. Ebay refunded his money, no discussion, no question. He sent me back an incomplete item which I had to pay the shipping on. I had no recourse. Ebay said that since I had refused that one return years ago, they were no longer going to back me up. I was on my own. Additionally, Ebay does not legally require my SSN, they could issue a W9. Heck, they could issue a 1099 without a SSN. Then it would be on the taxpayer to provide the IRS with the SSN. So, to recap, my money is being held hostage. I now have to go get an EIN to get my own money. NO MAS, Ebay, NO MAS.

Time to drop eBay. I'm sure sellers in other countries don't have to jump through these hoops. We need sellers to stop listing to make a point

I see the solution you checked for the issue you came here with, however while you can do that, it isn't going to gain you anything. And it certainly won't give you access to your money.
Ebay is only asking you for the last FOUR digits of your SSN. You will need to supply it to completely the information they require for your MP account.
You are a casual seller and won't likely have the need of a 1099K to be issued this year. So the last four digits of your SSN is enough for their needs. If you grow closer to the thresholds for a 1099K either for your state or federally, they will then need your full SSN.

If you don't like the requirements of Ebay's MP, you certainly aren't going to like the requirements or functionality of Mercari or Poshmark.

Why is that?

Yes you did. We all did. You just don't remember.
"you must provide a Social Security Number or a federal tax ID number (EIN) if you sell over $20,000 per year or 200 transactions per year using PayPal, whichever comes first" Wrong....those are the federal requirement for companies like Paypal to issue you a 1099. They can't issue a 1099 without a SSN or EIN so they collect them upfront incase.
"PayPal must, by IRS tax law, send you a 1099 form to report your income if you reach these levels." Well you got that one right. However, YOU still need to report income regardless of the level. If your state has a lower limit, you will get a 1099 from Paypal.
These are new tax laws so people need to quit quoting what used to be.
Actually not everyone did have to supply PP with their SSN years ago. They certainly required them from people they could tell might hit the 1099K threshold or history told them they exceed it.
You are however correct that we all need to be and should have been reporting online sales on our Federal income tax returns whether or not we receive or qualify for a 1099K. There are exceptions to this, but you need to make sure you follow the IRS rules on this as they are specific.

They likely have hoops of their own for what their countries require. However three pieces of information, which is what MP requires, doesn't really seem like much of a hoop to jump through.
Bank routing number, Checking account number and last 4 digits of your SSN.

I take it you are of the belief that if something isn't for you, then it can't possibly work for anyone else!!! Now how silly is that.

I have no idea what is going on here, but clearly it is wrong. I wish I knew something that would help you, but sadly I do not, sorry.
In January did you actually send them your bank statement or was that when you registered and provided your routing number and account number?
Ebay will celebrated their 26th Anniversary for the site next month.
Can you get this seller's account hooked up with someone that can actually help them please.
