I recently started selling on Ebay after 25 years of just buying. Right now my Ebay account is under my personal name and SS #. I do have an LLC and a EIN number. I am thinking I should change my account to be under the LLC name instead of my personal name and use the EIN instead of my SS# is that right? Then I should attach my Ebay account to a checking account that is under the name of the LLC am I thinking correct? How do I change everything on Ebay? Where do I go to change the information. Also am I supposed to change the account from a personal account to a business one or anything like that and how do I do that? Thanks so much.

Sorry for Hijacking the thread 🙂
I am on the same exact boat - un fortunately there is no EDIT on the type of account I have (Personal). I do not want to create a new account, just make changes as the above person said.

There is a problem with adding or editing an EIN #. There is no way to do it without contacting eBay customer support and even then, noone knows how to fix it. It's been 3 days since I called and haven't heard back yet

Strange this subject comes under transfer of account: you may own a business: but that business is not you...
Such a situation does fall under transfer.
Again the rules and should be.

@therosebrierand @thetaniv ,
Even if you have an LLC (or some other kind of a structured business) with an EIN, you still have to provide the personal details for all the people who have ownership of the business, with name(s) and SSN(s). So there probably wouldn't be any benefit to making the change.
I have seen some posts recently, where eBay is having issues with accounts that are registered as an LLC with an EIN. Many LLCs function (and report taxes) as sole proprietorships (though not all of them) and apparently the IRS is saying that they can't verify the information because they are expecting to have the owner's/taxpayer's name and SSN, rather than the LLC name and EIN. So they notify eBay that the name and/or TIN on the 1099-K doesn't match the IRS records.
Easier to leave things as they are, if you can.

You may have figured it out by now but apparently you cannot switch between a personal and business account. I want to do the opposite and found out it's not possible.

I had been on ebay for years. Then we began our own internet business. Now we're closing the internet business and I'm back on ebay. Question is I'm required to tax my buyers in California, but ebay does that. In order to tax, I have to switch to a business account. Any ideas?

You might have a resellers license in Cali that requires you to collect and remit sales tax from a Cali buyer, however, if you are selling on eBay you do not collect and remit the sales tax because eBay, as a Marketplace Facilitator is required to do that. You don't need to set up a tax table. eBay charges the sales tax to buyers. eBay receives the sales tax and eBay remits the sales tax to the states that charge sales tax.
Be Happy.

If I'm not mistaken if I read it differently my understanding is she's not trying to sell her eBay account she's trying to switch it over to her EIN and business name so not really that strange if you read it correctly but I would definitely be interested in getting her question answered and so if I had it which I do have the same question
And as it is currently unanswered if there's somebody out there who knows the answer please chime in
