Canadians that want to sell in both Can$ and US$ are getting a raw deal with Ebay's new policies

tyler@ebay

Hi Tyler, we need some serious support in Canada.

If we want to list in Can$ and US$, we are forced to open a 2nd account for the US$ if the main acct is in Can$.

This will be a serious increase in costs as now if you want to have a store on each, it is double the cost it was before MP, but that is not called an increase in fees????

Also, many listing programs have to be upgraded to allow multiple ID's, again not a fee increase????

Also to set up the 2nd account, has to partially be done on .ca and .com, a great deal of extra work for no money.

It took me 2 hours to get this done and set up only to find out my selling limit is a whopping 10 items even though my main account has no limits and has been around since 1999. There was no way to link them on line.

I called support who begrudging said they linked my 2 accounts but could only increase my selling limit to 100.

Another kick in the teeth by Ebay that was not mentioned.

If Ebay continues with this attitude towards Canadians, there will be little hope for Ebay Canada especially with no support for us discriminated against Canadians.

WE ARE STILL NOT PART OF THE US AND EBAY SHOULD LEARN TO SEPARATE US.

This whole mess with MP due to Ebay's incompetence, is very hard on Canadians wanting to sell in 2 currencies which was no problem with Paypal.

Why are Canadians being punished?

On a side note, Why does Etsy not have all Ebay's ridiculous unnecessary rules with MP when Etsy who uses the same processor does not???

Here's what I will do until Ebay readdresses the needless MP mess in Canada which will cost sellers a great deal of money:

I have ended my test listing and will not list anything under my new ID that I set up.

I will list my US currency elsewhere.

When my annual store subscription is up, I will list all my items elsewhere.

Thanks Ebay for giving Canadians the royal shaft  and forcing another seller to go elsewhere, but you can still say too bad, so sad, and good bye as we know you could care less.

@papermoney1948

Your grievance with eBay is a very valid one. The cost of doing business on eBay has increased significantly due to the way that eBay's Managed Payments was setup and structured.

But this extra cost is not exclusive to just Canadian sellers. There are many US based sellers like myself who like you list or at least use to list on other eBay sites and accepted payments in other currencies. eBay has treated this loss of service as if it were no big deal. Just pay us an additional 3% when we automatically convert that foreign currency for you regarless of whether or not you wanted it converted in the first place.

For me the cost amounts to about a 5.5% increase as the seller because I wanted to be paid in Euros and would hold those Euros in PayPal and make purchases from suppliers at a later date using those very same Euros. I am sure it is the exact same situation with many of the Canadian sellers here on eBay.com. You want to collect payment in USD and then turn around and spend those USD at a later date. But I'm sure eBay likes making that extra 3% converting every international sale into the seller's native currency. I doubt they will be helping seller all that much in eliminating that extra profit that they are now making. But that is just my opinion.

Re: Canadians that want to sell in both Can$ and US$ are getting a raw deal with Ebay's new policies

I will admit I am not fully versed in the way eBay is implementing MP in Canada or other countries for that matter but what you described makes little sense to me. So if I get what you described correctly you would have a U.S. based account that would show you as a U.S. seller even though you are in Canada? Does the U.S. account also link to your Canadian bank account in MP or do you have to open a U.S. based banking account? This usually requires a SSN but you can open a U.S. account without one.

Given the changes with regards to tax reporting and the issuance of the 1099's will your U.S. account receive a 1099 for tax purposes and even if you get one what are you supposed to do with it. I sell a few things internationally from my U.S. based eBay account and have never had any issues with the currency exchange rates it simply comes off as a business expense on my taxes. I also ship all my international sales through the eBay Global Shipping Center which handles the foreign shipping from the U.S. to wherever it goes and does the paperwork and customs form filings. If you are selling from a U.S. based account and shipping from Canada to you circumvent the customs process?

After eBay rolled out MP in the U.S. there were enough issues with the transition based on the U.S. financial system that eBay was somewhat acquainted with. I am not sure they have a clue with regards to how other countries financial institutions work. There have been a number of posts from EU countries about major problems with moving to MP.

For sure eBay has not abided by the old saying "if you are in a hole, stop digging". I can't wait to see them roll MP out in China that one should be hilarious.

It is a Canadian account but used to list in US$ only. Listings clearly show I am in Canada, and items ship from Canada. I have a US bank in the USA but Ebay will no longer accept that. I had to open a US$ account with a Canadian bank and connect MP to that.

I had a US registered account, a US paypal account, a US PO Box, and a US bank but Ebay has made them all useless with MP
