eBay is a major player in the secondhand sale market and is an integral part of moving merchandise for a seller. However, I'm really getting tired of eBay's managed payment policies. Once again a buyer opened a return. Apparently they purchased a gift and the recipient didn't want it. So now after almost the 30 day return window they decide to return.
Here's the problem, managed payments is withholding my funds from future payouts in the amount of this transaction, which is well over $ 2,000. In my opinion this is an unethical policy and I'm a Top Rated Seller for a reason. I deliver exceptional service and I will refund my customer, once I get the item back in its original condition. So the buyer has until February 17th to return this item and 2 business days have passed by and they have yet to return it. So my funds from future sales are on hold until they return the item an I issue a refund.
Does anyone else agree with this, as unethical business practices on behalf of eBay's managed payments?
I sell on Mercari, Offer Up, and Poshmark, and they don't have these policies in place for returns.
I believe in order to be taken seriously we would have to get over 500,000 sellers or more to boycott eBay. That's the only manner we can be heard. Until then, if I decide to boycott along with a few others, nothing will be done, we are replaceable and expendable.

I have put up with the "HOLDING" of payments because the Postal System is Slow. I want to ask My Customers if they think I or Ebay has a Magic Wand that controls the Postal System. They COME here and complain and I GET MY PAYMENTS HELD. I refunded one that was a higher dollar item and I went to USPS and reported it stolen, that usually does the trick. SO they got the Item Free and I LOST MONEY because EBAY HOLDS FUNDS, My husband is in the military and I'm a disabled vet so we move a lot. But this last "HOLD" HAS DONE IT. They wanted me to prove my Identity. After I bought Items here, PLUS They Still Let me Sell even though my "identity was in question"? I've removed my items on here and sell on another site and my own Facebook "shops" I Have a Petition I've started and two or three lawyers who've offered their services free, Please take a look on Facebook for Plaintiffs Against Ebay

The problem you are describing has nothing to do with the way MP functions. If your buyers are filing INRs on a transaction then MP does hold the funds just as PP would have held the funds if you were still using them.
The important thing to do with INRs is allow them to fully run their course. Unless you are positive the package was lost or stolen along its journey to your buyer, don't voluntarily refund it. Go to the USPS site, sign up for email updates on the tracking of the item. Every time there is is an entry to the tracking you will get an email. Also file a Trace on the package. That will often times help to shake loose a package. These should be the first two steps every time you get notified by your buyer there is a problem that the package has not arrived yet.
Ebay will allow the INR to stay open for 7-10 days after the last tracking update on the item. If it moves again, the clock starts over. If the package stops moving, just let the INR run its course and let Ebay refund the buyer. By doing this, it gives you the option to file for an appeal if tracking shows the item gets delivered at a later date. That is a very important option to have and would likely of helped you not lose so much money.
The past year and a half has been horrible with USPS and slow packages. Speaking for myself, out of all the packages that I have had delayed, and I assure you it has been a whole lot of them, only one or two was ever really lost. All the other packages ultimately did get delivered.
I don't know what or why they are asking you to "prove your identity". That may have nothing to do with your issues with INRs. It may be for your MP account. But I don't know, you didn't give a lot of details about why or when they asked you for that.

OP still has 73 active listings. Not much of a boycott.

I can't see how a boycott would work, logistically for many sellers, it'd be too much work to transfer potentially hundreds or more listings if the new platform they choose doesn't have a transfer function, and for many part time or casual sellers, they mostly wouldn't have the time or patience to do it all over again.
And those that are prepared would be outweighed by those who aren't.
Boycotts have been tried before in order for eBay to change or reverse a new policy but they've all failed. eBay records a minor short term drop but nothing that will severely impact the way they do things.
Even with the increased competition of various other selling sites around the world, eBay don't seem fussed by the competition. They experienced this when they changed the feedback system and pretty much every other time they've introduced something that people don't like.
I hate their policies as well as this new managed system as there seems to be too many ways for unscrupulous people to exploit it and with little to zero help from eBay sellers are, as always, mostly on their own.
It's like any new government introduction, people can protest and even riot, but how often has a riot overturned a government resolve?
Unless you get a protest that turns into a revolution, which is what you'll need, you can forget about eBay changing anything back to what it was.

I've been boycotting ebay since they cut paypal. Nevertheless it seems there are more people willing to get down on all fours and take it up the tailpipe than stand up for their beliefs. Its nice to see more people voicing dissatisfaction and I do believe it could make a difference if we didn't live in a generation of vipers. Greed is the real pandemic. By grace more people will speak out and through unity true power will be realized.

Boycotts never work...
If sellers can't work with a site and/or accept its rules & policies, perhaps the wisest decision is to just simply leave and go elsewhere to sell.
There are sellers that simply cannot walk away from a site like eBay, but some of us can...
I left eBay as a seller in mid-April 2021 and it was such a relief to leave all that **bleep** behind...the peace of mind is so worth it!
There is life after and beyond eBay!

The vast majority of sellers are signing up for MP. About 3/4ths of the 18million Ebay sellers worldwide are currently in the program.
Often times those that have never used MP think it is far more difficult than it is in reality to deal with. But with that said it is a very hard transition for Casual Sellers [no store] as they are use to and often need to receive that money right away. That just isn't going to happen in MP at least not the way it is currently structured to work. But Ebay is not the unicorn here, PayPal is. All the other larger sites like Ebay have their own money processing systems and have had for years. Ebay is the last to join the group regarding a money processing program. A couple of those sites have programs very similar to MP and a few others have ones that are even harder to deal with.
As to "greed". I always find that an interesting thing to say about Ebay in a negative way. Ebay is a for profit corporation. To be profitable is the reason they even exist. Why does being profitable = "greed". Isn't it the American way? Isn't it how all corporations run, with exception to 501c Charities?
Just in case you have never considered it, it is the same way ALL sellers operate too. We are ALL here to make a profit. So if you feel that Ebay is doing something wrong by doing this, then every seller also needs to be thrown in there as we are ALL here to earn a profit. Why do you hold Ebay to a different standard? If Ebay doesn't make a profit, what do you think will happen to the site?

I think you misunderstood. @wrong66 wasn't calling for a boycott, that was the OP and others on this thread that have. If you revisit their post I think you will see the question mark behind boycott. This poster has never supported that as far as I know.

The poster you were addressing in this comment did not end up leaving Ebay. While they don't have anything posted right now, they did a few days ago and had some sales while being in MP. So somewhere along the line they changed their mind about leaving or maybe they left and came back. IDK.
