Best Offer WITH Immediate Payment Required.

When can we get an option to require immediate payment with "Best Offer"?  I do seem to get several "Best Offer"s that end up with non-payments.....    I can set my listing up for Fixed Amount, and have "Immediate Payment Required", but I can't set it up for Fixed Amount+Best Offer+Immediate Payment Required.  WHY!!!!!

Re: Best Offer WITH Immediate Payment Required.

There is no way to force a user to make a payment. Payment must be initiated by the buyer, not the seller.

The reason that Immediate Payment Required works is because the only way to complete the transaction is to check out and pay; if the user does not pay, the item remains actively listed.

When an offer is accepted by a seller, by contrast, the item listing is ended at that time, regardless of whether the buyer is aware of it or even online at the time.

The seller cannot pull a payment from an unwilling buyer.

If you insist on using the offer feature, you can avoid unpaid items by not accepting an offer once your receive one. Instead, lower the item price to the offer (or counteroffer) amount. That encourages the offer-er to act quickly (since any user can take advantage of the new low price) and it keeps the item listed until a user completes checkout and pays.

Re: Best Offer WITH Immediate Payment Required.

If you want Immediate Payment Required, then set your price and forgo the Best Offer. If you have an idea of what you want for the item, Best Offer is not necessary as it is for negotiation.

Re: Best Offer WITH Immediate Payment Required.

I agree.

When a "Best Offer" is submitted, the purchaser should enter their payment info at that very moment. Obviously, this is with the understanding that the payment transaction only goes through if the seller accepts the offer.

Essentially, this would be just like a "Buy it Now" transaction, but with the stipulation of an accepted offer.

It seems like it would cut down on some back-and-forth correspondence.

I'm here from experience...

I submitted an offer - seller was on vacation - seller accepted offer - I was on vacation - came back to a black mark on my account due to "no payment" (I have since paid). Would have been so much easier to have all the payment stuff squared away ahead of time and just come home to my product already delivered.

I agree there's needs to be a better way b/c I end up losing sales when others are watching an item, someone places an offer, I accept, and then they don't pay.

Re: Best Offer WITH Immediate Payment Required.

Isn't this something that was addressed at e-bay Live and is on track for early 2022??

@katzrul15

I believe it is on track for sometime later this year, with immediate payments for auctions to come sometime in 2022. Of course, these dates aren't set in stone, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Best Offer WITH Immediate Payment Required.

I have recently decided to just not accept buy it now offers from people with less than 10 feedback, and I state it in my listing.  It seems to be working!

Iannone said immediate pay on offers will be released next year and they're hoping to release immediate pay on auctions later next year.

@coffeebean832

I read that as well.  I thought it would be a great idea for newbies who are plagued by those "best offers" that they accept only to find out the offer was made by a "text me" scammer.

There are no details, however, on how this is supposed to work other than the buyer is supposed to have a payment source on file that will be immediately charged if their offer is accepted.   It will be interesting to see if this  is a feature 'any' seller can use, if it will be mandatory,   only available for a select few, tied to some other unrelated requirement like "free returns", or it there is an additional charge to use it.

Love the idea - I kind of abandoned best offers for the most part.  Would love for them to have an immediate pay option and then I would certainly embrace them again.

Re: Best Offer WITH Immediate Payment Required.

What eBay should do is this....  When a buyer makes a offer and sellers accepts the item remains active until its paid. The buyer is given 24 hours to complete payment or the sale is void. If the buyer reaches 3 void offers they can no longer make offers.

Re: Best Offer WITH Immediate Payment Required.

You can't have immediate payment required on a best offer.

How do we know where the buyer is or what the buyer is doing when you accept their offer?

You accept their offer at 4 AM when they're sleeping.

You accept their offer at 10 AM while they're at work.

You accept their offer at 8 PM when they are on a flight to Chicago.

Re: Best Offer WITH Immediate Payment Required.

Indeed, it's impossible to set up IPR for sellers accepting an offer from a buyer.

But  it's possible to set up IPR for buyers accepting an offer from a seller: When accepting the offer or counteroffer from a seller, they'd have to authorize payment and confirm their address just as they would when making a regular BIN purchase.

eBay tried that a couple of years ago but abandoned it after too many buyers dawdled, lost their item, and got upset.
