Bank Account and SS numbers exposed

We are having a difficult time sending in our Bank account and SS numbers to EBay in order to get paid for sold items. Do not feel safe ? Does any one have a suggestion?

Federal law requires eBay to submit 1099K forms for sellers who reach a certain threshold, and that form requires a taxpayer ID number. (PayPal requires this, too). I suppose you could look into obtaining an EIN if you want to protect your SSN.

Managed Payments requires a bank account. If you do not want to send your personal bank account number, you can look into creating a new bank account just for eBay. That is what I did.

I presume you mean a mental problem,not that there was a problem in actually submitting the information.

These are the reasons I usually give in answer to a hesitation......

Tho people may not remember you submitted the same information to Paypal......the bank account info is the same on a check you might give to anyone, and Ebay  is required by the Federal gov't to have the ss....Millions of sellers are giving the same information, you would probably have to give the same info to any online entity that has to distribute money..

I signed up last week and it took about ten seconds to fill in the SS# info.  

I am sure you will get a lot of suggestions on your future NOT selling on ebay.

If by "We are having a difficult time" means you have not done it yet because you don't trust the safeguards of the American financial system then perhaps you have already decided not to sell on ebay moving forward.

I had many problems with getting ebay to verify my account. NO I don't feel safe. Not only that but I noticed they raised fees. I just sold a sewing pattern for $3.50 w/ 3.50 shipping. They charged me $1.30 in fees. That's nearly half of the selling price. I am not sure I will be sticking around on ebay. They are getting too greedy for me.

Why should I have to create more bank accounts? With covid raging I don't want to go anywhere I don't have to go. Just saying, this is a stupid time for them to pull this stuff.

Well it took me a week of trying to do this everyday. I have four ebay sites. I will be moving my stuff off of one of them asap. Then I will figure out where to list my other stuff. I don't like this. So, now everytime I pay for shipping it comes out of my bank account? NO too many transactions in my bank account. They are just being greedy.

shipping can be taken out of your payments before they are made to you, so you don't have to have more than 4 transactions (one payment per wk, if you want) per month to your account.

You don't have to open another account.........but if you want to, lots of people have gotten one on line......

Open a separate checking account just for EBAY.  The reason EBAY requires your SS# is because they send 1099 to you and the government about your earnings.

Important thing to remember when opening new CHECKING ACCOUNT is that name must be EXACT MATCH (to name shown on your EBAY profile page and also your SS#).   If names don't match exactly your application will be denied or they may require additional proof.

After your MANAGED PAYMENT account is activated...when you make a sale it takes 3-5 days before money is deposited directly into your CHECKING ACCOUNT.

I remember having difficulty on my GM Capital one site.My new credit card was enroute to me and as luck would have it I was signed in to my own account and the numbers were Xed out for a bunch of digits.

I was trying to find out my own account number and could not do it.

exposed is a strange word...................just who are the numbers exposed to

I would venture to say there is not a single person at ebay who can see your SS number

they may know if its wrong and if its right but I do  not think anyone at ebays has your info like that

of couse this is only conjecture but I thinks all that stuff is encrypted and hidden

The process of moving sellers onto managed payments has been going on for nearly two years already.  I know many sellers who were moved over in 2018.  They had hoped to have everyone moved over by the end of 2020, but covid did slow them down a bit, so now it’s later in 2021.

I just went through the managed payments signup process. If I hadn't already decided to dump ebay, that would have done it.
