Auto pay

Thank you eBay for ruining my hobbies.  Auto pay is not acceptable to me I purcase diecast cars and comic books as a hobby.    I can no longer win several items go to my cart and ask seller for an invoice .   Every car every comic book auto pays including shipping .   So when I buy 10 comic books or hot wheels  I get to pay 50 to 100 dollars in shipping.  So far I've been lucky and was able to get people to refund the extra shipping and combine my orders   so on my credit card statement there are 10 extra transactions .     So what if seller decides to keep my 100 dollars in shipping and send my 6.99 package .   It's as if they don't trust us to pay.  I have bought over 3000 items and payed for them .    This is truly  a big Hassel     I don't have time  to play pay extra and hope for refund games.  .   Maybe you all do  so.  I'm done buying multiple items.  Until this is resolved.     I will find a better way to waste my time and money.     Less competition for you all.     Good luck with Auto pay.    It's a terrible feature

Re: Auto pay

It is dangerous for you to bid, win, pay and expect or trust the seller will reimburse shipping.  If the seller combines shipping  it should be in the listing they combine and what each additional item costs will be in the shipping details. If you don't  see that then the seller doesn't combine and therefore you shouldn't  bid on multiple items expecting a discount on shipping.

Sellers that combine shipping should opt out of requiring advance payments for both offers and for bids.

If they have it enabled they do not combine. Sellers that combine will not have it enabled.

Re: Auto pay

My buyers don't do a lot of multiple purchases and I don't have many, if any buyers that don't pay on an offer.

I disabled the auto pay because I don't need it as a seller.

EBay should have not flipped the switch to on for every seller. Auto pay should have been an option for sellers to use.

I can certainly see the need for some sellers to have to use auto pay depending on what they are selling.

Re: Auto pay

I'm a buyer that bids on vintage kodachrome slides. Some sellers have multiple bid deadlines a week with a postage fee per item. I would usually wait til Sunday, request an invoice and pay in one shot so I'd only pay postage once. Now, with mandatory autopay, ebay is charging me postage on every purchase which I'm forced to make at the time of my winning bid. This adds up FAST. ebay customer service was ZERO help; they told me autopay can only be controlled by the seller. Most of my sellers had never heard of it or wondered why their customers were suddenly paying immediately. It's apparently some ebay beta test of immediate payment to reduce deadbeat issues. If enough people scream about it maybe they'll drop the stupid idea and stop ripping buyers off and making the seller pay all those extra transaction/listing fees. I'm paying multiple extraneous postage fees and (some of) my sellers are paying $.30/slide shipped and the 16% fee on top. This is killing us.

Re: Auto pay

How does the seller opt out of autopay/advance payments?  I'm a vintage 35mm slide buyer and suddenly I'm forced to pay immediately upon winning and I get charged postage on each of the items. I used to be able to wait 'til Sunday, request an invoice and buy, say, three slides from three different dates from one seller and pay ONE postage fee for all. The slides are tiny, so postage is minimal per slide. Not so if you buy TEN slides hence 10x postage. Apparently this mess is an ebay beta test that was unannounced and most of my sellers didn't know about it. Some didn't know about autopay or how to disable it. That's what I'm trying to find out.

Re: Auto pay

I HAVE TAKEN THIS OFF OF "eBay Community Buying & Selling"
THIS IS WHAT IS GOING ON WITH SELLING, THAKE A LOOK

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Buying/eBay-automatically-charging-buyers-on-auction-wins-amp-Make/m-p/3393092...

eBay automatically charging buyers on auction wins & Make offers

As a seller, you can get rid of this on this page:

https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements

Buyer Payment Requirements

*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid.

*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer.

eBay didn't bother to tell sellers that these things were placed on their accounts with the default set to YES. They didn't work for the most part anyway unless eBay forced the BUYER ID into the program, too. Now buyers are being actively enrolled, and are being told IT IS THE SELLER that chooses this, as apposed to eBay chose it for the seller, and didn't bother to tell them.

Once your BUYER ID is forced into the program(s) there is no getting out until the SELLER realizes the consequences of those preferences. Many think it is simply wonderful. Those that use the BEST OFFER or AUCTIONS are wondering why they don't get offers or many bids, as these preferences discourage buyers that do pay, and buyers that want to purchase more than one item from the same seller.

Re: Auto pay

The seller should go to Account Settins>Selling Preferences>Manage who can buy from you>Buyer Payment Requirements. Make sure both settings are unchecked.

Buyer Payment Requirements

Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid.
Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer.

Re: Auto pay

Are you really serious??? Most sellers don't even realize the are in this stupid plan or whatever it is. How many different vendors are dealt with on a daily basis, and are all of they going to turn this off. I doubt it. My over 20 years of doing business on ebay are now going to end over this.

Re: Auto pay

But there HAS to be a way for the buyer to opt out also. When I did it for the first time, I thought it was for ONLY that time. REALLY misleading if you ask me. CHANGE THIS EBAY!!!!

Re: Auto pay

eBay should do this rather than requiring buyers to contact sellers so they can change a setting they often don't know exists. Making EVERYONE on your platform jump through hoops just to keep buying/selling is a *** policy.

Re: Auto pay

@batv @babsimerk @hollyd7770

I was just posting how sellers can unenroll for Immediate payment required for Best Offers and Auctions. I was not saying it is a good system.

I agree sellers should not have been enrolled automatically. When I found this out, I immediately went in and disabled it on my selling account. I don't need eBay deciding how or when I should get paid by buyers. I offer shipping discounts for multiple purchases.

As for buyers the only way to unenroll, from what I have read on these boards, is to delete their payment method on file. If you do that the next time you want to make an offer or bid you will be probably be requested to input it again. What I would do if that happens is to contact the seller and ask them before bidding or making an offer if they require immediate payment.

It's inconvenient for buyers but is really the only way sellers may find out they have been opted into this as most do not frequent these forums. eBay really hasn't been upfront about this on their information pages. Their reasoning is it makes for a smoother checkout experience and cuts down on non-paying buyers.

Unfortunately, it lumps all buyers into the program rather than just weeding out the non-payers / scammers and suspending their accounts.

Re: Auto pay

As a buyer, I realized this "feature" being enabled on my account and got multiple duplicated shipping fee. I stopped bidding since July, and moved transactions offline or domain-specific online auction platforms.

PMs at ebay may not understand that auction by its nature implies the desire of fulfilling a transaction is entirely optional. Things like this can easily stop people from bidding; they will soon form a better habit in their life.
