Hi,
I recently sold a item of substantial value and I don't remember eBay being able to take a Fee from the sale that includes the TAX in the total payment from the buyer?
I have never heard of such a thing.
How many different ways is eBay over charging?
Shipping fees for returns and now fees that in TAX and if the item is from an international buyer they throw that in too. The additional value adds up to 55.65 of which they took 13.25% equals 7.37. Then the international fee is is an addition 1.65 % of the total equals 14.04.
Keeping in mind the seller has ZERO idea that the buyer is international but eBay gets more money if it is!

They charge a fee because they submit all that tax from all 50 states FOR YOU. IF they had not done that for ALL the sellers on this marketplace doing taxes every year would have become an utter mess trying to figure out what tax and at what percent each of these states require and then submitting this mess yourself.

When this all started with the Govt imposing taxes on the internet I felt overwhelmed if I had to keep track of all the different tax rates and was GRATEFUL to pay to have them do it. NOT ME. I have better things to do and focus on then a complicated tax sheet at the end of the year.

I do not remember such.

As most of those state laws are written to not adversely impact the small seller, I would have no requirement to submit sales tax for the vast majority of jurisdictions for interstate sales.
To add.................... for those that will reply with such............................. no, I do not buy into the idea that states would rewrite the interstate sales tax collection laws to get those funds from small sellers.

If you seriously believe what you just posted, you have not been schooled in what states will do to generate revenue....especially when they see one state require something and it is found to be a constant revenue source that doesn't lose votes.....
or do you not recall there used to be no sales tax on
many 'personal' services, until one state started to impose a 'consumption/sales' tax on some services that previously were exempt from sales tax. Other states saw the nice bump in revenue and within a few years many other states were charging for, and adding more items to, this "taxable items" list.
Trust me, if ebay did not collect it for us, it would be just a matter of time before we were forced to collect, file and remit to various state tax entities...
as far as "...As most of those state laws are written to not adversely impact the small seller..."
I am not even going to touch that statement....
