Monthly Chat - August 2nd at 1:00 pm PST

We are excited to announce that our Shipping team will be joining us for the August monthly chat! Get your questions ready for our Shipping team on August 2nd at 1:00 pm PST, (one week earlier than our prior chats).

Edit: Thanks for joining us for the Monthly Chat with eBay Staff and Shipping Team.

The chat thread will remain open until 2 PM PT at which point we'll close it from additional responses. After that time, we'll continue to work on responding to any queries that might still be unanswered.

To post your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, type your question, and hit submit between 1-2 PM Pacific Time. The format of our chat mirrors the format of our Community Discussion Boards, where each post will appear in the thread chronologically. The Shipping Team and Community Team will review each question as it comes in, and will quote the original question in our reply. This quote and the reply will appear later in the thread, so just keep scrolling down to see our answers.

As a reminder, we want Shipping Team to be able to get to as many members as possible during the allotted hour, so we have a few things to ask of you:

  • Keep on topic
  • Scroll through the list of questions to see what has already been asked to decrease chances of redundancy
  • Keep the message/question simple and no more than one to two items. If you include multiple questions in a post, please be aware that they may not be addressed during the chat and Shipping Team will do their best to follow-up with it after the chat has closed

Missed the chat? Send your questions to the podcast by calling 888-723-4630 or email us at podcast@ebay.com and maybe your questions will make it on the air! Or listen to past episodes while you wait for next month!

I have all but given up on international sales. I sell small lightweight items. An individual copyrighted color slide may sell for less than the cost of international shipping. The eBay shipping programs are not satisfactory because selling an undelivered slide could create copyright issues. I notice that sending items of minimal value by USPS First Class Mail International to the European Union is blocked by the USPS unless the item is valued at zero. Also, stamps for collectors are blocked by the new eBay Global Shipping program. Since there are two HS codes for stamps, why not allow shipping stamps that cannot be used for postage?

HS code 970400 for used postage stamps, no longer valid stamps, and first day covers is 970400. It should not be blocked by the eBay Global Shipping Program

HS code 490700 for current unused postage or revenue stamps may have to be blocked.

It would be helpful if eBay category help listed the most common HS codes for each major category tree.

Hi @clarkphilatelics

I am not sure I am following the copyright issue. eBay International shipping is a great alternative to the HS code requirements of USPS. You can find out more information on the program here: https://www.ebay.com/sellercenter/shipping/ebay-international-shipping

Combined shipping postage discounts have failed for international shipping on eBay as long as I can remember. Will it ever work? Is it possible that offering free domestic shipping triggers problems when combining international orders?

Hi @clarkphilatelics  Thanks for your question The issue around combined shipping is the manifests matching the packaging for customs and the taxes and duties are assessed. Stay tuned for more info later this year.

I would really like the eBay standard envelope to be expanded to other categories too. How about for greeting cards?

Re: Monthly Chat - August 2nd at 1:00 pm PST

It took only a few minutes to initiate the change from USPS First Class Package to USPS Ground Advantage for about 2,000 eBay listings managed by SixBit.

Pirate Ship made the transition over the rate-change weekend.  eBay shipping dialogs requires envelope size and weight input for every mailing.  What am I missing?

EIS Questions and Technical issues.

I have multiple listings that are not being offered for international shipping while I have the similar item, same category, same shipping box dimensions, same weight that are not excluded. Unfortunately I have lost so many sales due to this discrepancy. Please take a look at both of these listings. First is excluded. Second one is not.  Both were originally listed on the same day. Both are identical except for color.

How difficult would it for eBay to provide a means of caching frequently used envelope configurations including size, weight and shipping options like Signature Confirmation?

Hi @clarkphilatelics From your description it sounds like you could benefit from shipping policies. You can find more information on shipping policies here: https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/shipping-policy?id=5035&st=3&pos=2&query=Shippin...

Re: Monthly Chat - August 2nd at 1:00 pm PST

The eBay supplies store no longer offers the 10" x 5" envelope which eBay recommended when using eBay Standard Envelope.  The other 2 envelopes mentioned for use that are still in the store are too stiff.  Is there any chance of eBay encouraging the supplies store to restock the 10" x 5" envelopes?

Re: Monthly Chat - August 2nd at 1:00 pm PST

Classic example of not knowing what is going on USPS is not going to acknowledge First Class of any kind after 9/30/2023.  Now eBay is saying well its not a problem until after the end of the year.  Please answer the question why your IT department could not come up with a fix.  Being honest with this will stop a lot of the anger Seller feel about having to spend large amounts of money to do your job.

Another EIS question:

Is eBay going to offer sellers the ability to enable/disable EIS at the listing level (and biz policy level) at any point in the foreseeable future?

Hi @wastingtime101 Thank you for the suggestion, we will review this request and keep you informed about any updates.

Re: Monthly Chat - August 2nd at 1:00 pm PST

Thank you for the suggestion.

I use SixBit to create listings. I do not bother to associate with package dimensions or weight with individual listings. Multiple items in an order will add up to an excessive weight. About 10,000 stamps weighs one pound.  It is easier to enter the order weight in SixBit than to undo an overweight combined shipment label. The idea of specifying tare weight and item weight separately has been discussed.

Re: Monthly Chat - August 2nd at 1:00 pm PST

Thank you for the Kool Aid answer to direct questions.  You have no fix and will not have a fix.  Please contact USPS and have them tell you that they will not honor First Class of any kind after 9/30/2023.  Telling people they have to the end of the year may work for you it just won't work in the real world where the rest of us have to live.

Hi @redstarrobot_vintage_toys Thanks for reporting this, I am not showing a clear indication as to why these are not included. I am going to need to send this to our technical team for further investigation.

Re: Monthly Chat - August 2nd at 1:00 pm PST

I want to reiterate that this:

eBay will not take any action on listings with First-Class package service until after the end of 2023

needs to be in a General Announcement.........Comparatively, few sellers read this board (or any board).......and they all need to know it..........
