Most every structure on my layout has been made with plastic of some sort.(except for a scratch built wooden fire tower) I now have won a lazer cut kit and was wondering if it will go together like the plastic buildings or what problems will I run into trying to build this wood kit. I take it that lazer cut kits are wood? Thanks for any suggestions. Gene

Goody, goody. I sure know how to pack 'em I guess. With the hay bales you showed me and maybe and old horse named....dare I say it, Dobbin, :D, that should make a nice scene. It needs a wagon though.... B-)

I do use liquid cement, the kind that comes in a bottle with the little brush. Photo posted in my first kits. Chuck 🙂

Chuck your pic is up. It looks like you might have room to use a #11 blade from the back and slowly draw it along between the edge of the door and the window frame and make slow draw cuts through the glue (only) you used. If you don't think you have room then I would go along with a previous suggestion and use and liquid type glue such as Tenax-7R soften up your glue and then draw the #11 blade, keep repeating the liquid glue only to the glue you used as -7R will eventually melt the plastic door if your not careful. Use a fine paint brush to apply the glue and use sparingly. I would take some scraps that are left over from your kit and glue them together with the same glue and let it set and then practice taking it apart. If you get some liquid cement practice putting some scraps together to get the feel of both quantity of the liquid and you will see how it flows into the joints you are making. I might also suggest using a liquid cement instead of the tube types. You can direct the cement with a paint brush easier than squirting from a tube. I do not have much success with tube glue and only use the liquid types. I have just finished scratch building 15 different buildings and the job went quicker because the liquid cements dry and set faster as long as you use sparingly. Long winded Eh!! Jack

Just take a pair of vice grips and rip it right out of there. It'll be fine, trust me. ]:) Punk

Chuck I just took a look and you could also make and glue a set of stairs up to the doors. Punk

Chuck, You could glue a piece of paper or plactic behind the open space ans it would look just like a recessed panel as a toe kick panel like the "transom panels" you now have at the top. B-)

Thank you all for the advice and suggestions. Will probably just paint the window and turn it into a kick plate like Pete suggested. Knowing my skills if I tried to take the door out and put in right my building would probably end up being condemned buy the building inspector. Chuck 🙂

Chuck, Do it in the contrasting color to the door and paint the top two the same way. That way it will definitely look natural. B-)

Going threw my DPM kit I found a sheet of molds for different kinds of awnings for my buildings. What kind of material do I use to make molds with? Chuck 🙂

Chuck, Not quite sure what you mean. The awnings are paper or cast? You need to make reproducable molds of what? You can make molds with WS Latex Rubber. You paint it on the pattern piece so you can then use the resulting rubber mold to pour plaster into to make more of the same item. I do this with my tunnel portals. Give us some more info as to what you really need to know. B-)

These molds are made out of ( I call it a thin sheet of plastic about 3" x 6") The forms are inside out meaning all the detail is on the inside. There are twelve different molds or forms or what ever you call them on this sheet. There are no instruction on how to use them or what material to poor in them, to make them. At first I thought you cut them out and glue them on direct. That's when I realized all the detail is on the inside. In my last post I called them awnings, my mistake. They are different kinds and sizes of vents. Mainly roof and a couple could be mounted on a wall. Hope this gives you a better description Chuck 🙂
