This is possibly the worst time to go ahead with such a decision, regardless of when that decision was made or any difficulties there may be in reversing it. Many people are having to make big changes to the way they live and work, they rely on the known and existing systems they have access to and that they know work, why then would eBay remove such a system at this time?
I, like many people, simply cannot afford to play the upgrade game, our devices still work perfectly well so there is no good reason to spend a lot of money on something that would ultimately just perform exactly the same tasks.
By going ahead with this app retirement eBay are effectively saying that they don't care about a portion of their loyal user base, like a few other large companies who have decided to brick or remove their perfectly good old apps for no reason other than the upgrade culture.
The cynic in me says that eBay are only doing it to drive sales of newer iPad and smart phone models on their site, pure selfish greed. Prove me wrong by reversing the decision.
