iOS app upgrade, older versions no longer supported

If you have been notified to update your eBay app, here are the steps to take to get the latest version onto your device. You need to have iOS 14 or higher to get the latest version from the Apple App Store

  • Open the App Store app on your device
  • Search for eBay app in the App Store
  • Select ‘Update’ button next to the eBay app title

Link to Apple App Store:

iOS 12 - If your device is running iOS 12 you might be able to install an older version from the App Store

  • Delete the ebay app from the device
  • Open the app store app
  • Tap account button
  • Tap Purchased
  • Scroll to the eBay app and tap the cloud and down arrow icon

If your device cannot be upgraded to iOS 12 you can use the Safari browser to access ebay.

Thank you and let us know if you have any troubles getting these updates to work.

There seem to be some site wide issues at the moment according to the status page. Perhaps wait a bit and try again when things are working.

Watch List page not loading (though Summary is OK).

Re: Version expired. New version not compatible with iPad

On the plus side, I have saved thousands of dollars this year due to this change. My ebay browsing has dropped effectively to zero, the only time I even bother to go there anymore is when there's a specific item I want and I've already checked everywhere else. I've given Aliexpress, Bangood and Amazon most of the money I would have given ebay. Selling is such a hassle without the app that I've mostly stopped that too.

Re: Version expired. New version not compatible with iPad

I deleted the app as it was not working correctly (could not see photos of items being sold),  Went to re download and the app only says open in the app store.  Even on purchase history it wont let me download only open.

I want to get the icon back on my home screen, but cannot

Go to your device settings. Under Apps, see if eBay appears there. If so, uninstall. Then restart your device and try to get the new version of the eBay app from the Google Play Store.

Re: Version expired. New version not compatible with iPad

A thought just occurred to me... there is a facility in Firefox (and possibly with other browsers too) whereby one can assign a custom stylesheet to websites, I reckon it might be possible to use this to restyle the eBay website to work better on smaller screens.  I don't know how practical it will be for mobile devices, but I'm going to give it a try.  Look up Firefox custom stylesheet if interested, it should just be a matter of inserting the styles into this stylesheet (which resides locally on your own device) to make them work.

Yea I have same issue. How stupid can they be. I'm not getting a new phone. Just won't ebay as often. Use to get on every few hours to search. Now it's going to be more like once a day or every other.

Re: Version expired. New version not compatible with iPad

No consideration then to make the app backwards compatible. Is it far to difficult or tedious for the developing team to contemplate user with older devices!

I have this big RED banner reminding me to update the app. OK, click and follow the instructions. In the App Store it states “will work on this iPad” click update and after a few minutes I get an error saying to update my iOS to iOS 13 and yet my device says it already is running the latest software.

Further investigations I learn that Apple iOS 13 is not available for the iPad Air.

Back to the update page and where it says that it will work on this device, click it to expand it and the iPad Air is not there.

Someone, eBay Developers or Apple are giving misleading information and are definitely NOT communicating with each other.

I could overcome this with a new device but why would I want to purchase one when there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

eBay, make you app backwards compatible, remove the annoying reminder banner when it doesn’t apply to this device (you capture this information for your development team) and make sure your update page(s) display the correct information. If it’s not available for this or any device then it should not be listed as an update!
