If you're unable to update the app, it could be you're working on an outdated device which no longer supports current versions of the eBay app.
If that's the case you'll have to access eBay through a web browser on your phone/tablet.
You might run into some tech issues even using the website if your device is unsupported. Same will happen for other sites and apps, not just eBay.
Unfortunately tech ages pretty quickly and once a device is no longer supported, it's upgrade or lose function.

If your operating system does not support the latest version of the eBay app and you cannot update your operating system, it should still be possible to use a mobile browser to go to ebay.com or ebay.co.uk and use eBay that way.
If eBay browser links are opening in the app automatically, iOS users should be able to tap and hold an eBay browser link and select "don't open in the app" to prevent that from happening. Android users need to go to the device Settings: Apps: eBay: Open by default: Open supported links and select "don't open in the app".

@fmw63 @london_christina Follow eBay's instructions from this post:
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Mobile-Apps/App-will-not-update/m-p/34718836#M49148
- Delete your ebay app
- Go to the App Store, search for ebay
- When you download it you will see this alert, tapping download should allow you to get a version that will run on your device.

Same issue but new download still requires iOS 17 or later.
what apple is forgetting is that users who have old/er devices have a legal right in the UK and EU to expect a device to last a reasonable amount of time (8-10 years) Forcing users to purchase new devices prior in order to use corporate aps colluding in the monopoly, only encourages the use of android over apple, and I would encourage anyone to consider their choice for a new device in this regard, and vote with your feet…I believe there is a class action in flight, so that’s my next google, (provided I can still
access the page using iOS 15.8.2… Crapple…

@djmisstear If you're working on an outdated device that no longer supports current versions of the eBay app, you should be able to access eBay through a web browser on your device.
If you're on iOS 15 or 16 you should still be able to get a version of the app that will run on your device. Follow these instructions from eBay:
- Delete your eBay app.
- Go to the App Store, search for eBay.
- When you download it you will see this alert, tapping download should allow you to get a version that will run on your device.

You can still use a browser to go to ebay.co.uk if you cannot get the app to work with your current operating system or upgrade.

According to the below post from an eBay rep, the UK stopped supporting older operating systems. Android 10 and iOS 17 appear to be the minimum operating system requirements for the eBay app in the UK.

You should still be able to access https://www.ebay.co.uk/ using a web browser on your device.
If links are automatically opening in the app you can change your settings and force them to open in your web browser.

I appreciate your reply, but you've entirely missed the point i raise and purpose of my comment.
We have a 'right to repair' in the UK (and wider EU countries when we were part of that) for electronic devices up to 10 years old. I have been using an iphone SE top spec and storage (that cost ~£500 when new) and i purchased it and look after it like all other high value ticket items i work hard for to ensure its longevity.
most of ebay is used to buy parts for anything and everything and i would suggest that spares for older items like electronics, vehicles, house and home accounts for at least 50% of its turnover? It's therefore biting its own customers hands that feed it and should continue to support older iOS where possible.
The ultimate culprit of course is "Crapple" who now provide no iOS update for its devices that are less than 10 years old, despite a law stating i have a right of repair... It's like Land Rover providing me parts for my 17 year old Range Rover to keep it on the road, but the tyre manufacturer deciding it no longer wants to make tyres for teh size of wheels i have, and then the government deciding to remove access to the roads...Sure i can start my car and sit in it, but it's a bit of a waste of time owning it if i can't drive it.... I can access ebay on my PC, but want to be able to use it seamlessly on the device i bought to use it on and there will be many more elderly people across the globe who don't need to flash their device to the world like Bianca Censori 's underwear just to show their sense of purpose in life...I'll switch to android, but not prior to taking crapple to court based on this very situation i'm finding myself in, for the third Crapple device i own...

and why state "you can download the last compatible version" if it simply does not work. You should be able to revert to a previous working version and continue with the warned or inherited security risks, but this reverts back to the 'right of repair' legislation, the 'spirit of the law' and my mindful nod to the environment over corporate greed...

According to a post on the UK community boards, the latest version of the eBay app requires Android 10 or later, or iOS 17 or later.
If you cannot upgrade your operating system or find an older version of the app that works with your current operating system, you should still be able to use a browser to go to ebay.co.uk instead.
If eBay browser links are opening in the Android version of the app automatically, you can disable that by going to your device Settings: Apps: eBay: Open by default: Opens supported links and choosing "Don't open in the app". iOS users can tap and hold an eBay browser link and choose "Don't open in the app".
