Can’t upload or access new update

Can’t use the site. Keeps asking for update. I can’t do this as it says it requires iOS 17. I’m not buying another mobile phone beacause I can’t get iOS 17😡😡😡 Why have you messed up something that was working perfectly ok for the last 25 years😡 any ideas anybody???

If you are using iOS 15, see instructions here for installing a compatible version of the eBay app:

There may be something similar for iOS 16 now.

If your operating system does not support the latest version of the eBay app and you cannot update your operating system or use a previous version that is still supported, it should still be possible to use a mobile browser to go to ebay.com or ebay.co.uk and use eBay that way.

If eBay browser links are opening in the app automatically, iOS users should be able to tap and hold an eBay browser link and select "don't open in the app" to prevent that from happening. Android users need to go to the device Settings: Apps: eBay: Open by default: Open supported links and select "don't open in the app".

Deleted, reinstalled won’t let me do anything. Down loaded older version and goes straight to you need to update your version😡 Furious I have to run my business 75 % if the time from my phone and not the office laptop. Have iOS 15.8 it simply wont let me at present until you bug fix Irvine up with some idea that works for us older version people. It’s simply not fair to keep updating every five minutes when we can’t keep up with the systems your putting in place. Again 25 years in business with eBay and now I can do anything at present from my mobile

A full weeks has gone by for you to sort this issue out and still no joy. Yes I can access via browser but it doesn’t do what I want like the app does. Ie : nice and simply to get to what I want and list items etc etc. it won’t simply let you down load the older iOS 15 app as soon as you reinstall it asks you for an update and boots your out. Doesn’t really matter now as I’ve got to a get a new mobile phone now at the weekend because you’ve messed everything up and cost my business a lot of money this week like thousands of other users on Ebay. Simply not good enough I’m afraid. No solutions apart from you can still use the browser version😡

A possible temporary workaround for iOS 15 users has been suggested here:

Your options would seem to be:

(1) Find a workaround that lets you temporarily use an older, possibly insecure, version of the app.

(2) Upgrade your operating system to one that supports a newer version of the app, if your hardware allows that.

(3) Upgrade your hardware so you can accomplish (2).

(4) Use a mobile browser instead of the app.

Given that (1) and (2) are temporary measures at best, and you seem to discount (4), (3) is your only real option if you want to continue using the eBay app long term.

Wow. No 💩 Sherlock. I think everyone you’ve bent over with your update has come to that conclusion. You could have easily let everone know you were upgrading and older systems and phones were going to become extinct. At least I’d have had time to prepare my business accordingly instead of fire fighting the issue every day giving you the benefit of the doubt fixing the problem. We all know where we stand now anyway👍 Another very unhappy 25 years business user of EBay.

You seem to be under the impression that you are addressing someone who works for eBay that chose to make your version of the app stop working for you, rather than an eBay user who happened to take the time to provide you with some information you apparently did not have when you posted about not being able to "use the site".

My apologies. It’s been and extremely frustrating process with all eBay departments in trying to get the issue resolved and I have appeared to go off on one in this case the wrong department. Please accept my apology I was not aware this part of the eBay forums is set out by individuals outside trying to help👍 It’s just very frustrating when things go wrong and it seems nobody want to do anything about it. Once again 🫶

Your frustration is entirely understandable -- eBay has not made the process easy. What little info eBay actually does provide is often contradictory or subject to revision. Users are told to upgrade, but are given no apparent upgrade path; newer versions of the app are not shown to users whose systems do not support them, leading to confusion about whether the versions users have or can see are the latest or not.

Lots of folks are in the same situation.

I’ve ordered a new mobile phone now as in previous messages but I’ve also managed to find a hack / way around for older users to get into there accounts. It may be very helpful or somebody at the top my be annoyed I’ve found a way in and **bleep** it down? Any way please feel free to pass it on. It may or may not work for everyone but it’s fine with my iOS 15.8 operating system. 

1) Enter the app as normal and then leave it running in the background. 

2) Go to Google and type in eBay.

3) Sign in and wait for the Desk top version to load up. 

4) Press the checkout shopping basket symbol in the top right hand corner. 

5) Them press the sign in / figure symbol that’s next to the checkout symbol in the top right corner.

This then flicks you back to the EBay app where the exit / update has disappeared and everything works fine. 

As I said it works for me and I have successfully managed to do this on 2 other older operating system friends iPhones. May be luck? May be a glitch I just know at present by hits buttons in frustration I managed to get in via this solution. It may or may not be work for everyone , but there’s nothing to loose. Kind regards Lee👍
