I started complaining about this app bug back in March! If you use the iPhone iPad or Android eBay app, go to a listing and scroll down to Item Description. Look carefully. Is what is displayed the FIRST sentence of your description? Probably not. Then open the "read more" and you'll see that whatever you wrote is there, BUT that first sentence (or maybe two or more) are NOT displayed on the original screen with the little description. So people are not seeing your critical first sentence. So today when I called yet again about this issue an Account Supervisor tried for over an hour to do to a listing what the unhelpful help people said to do. (What does eBay say about this? That I (me!) need to do HTML coding of my listings to fix it. Yes, really! I might add, this information was never sent to me so even if it were something that could be done, how could I do it without knowing about it. Sigh.) He couldn't fix it. "They" are getting back to me in a few days with information. Meanwhile, everybody, check how your listing Item Description is being displayed and complain, big time!

I've been noticing this and it is rather annoying and misleading to the buyer. Depending on how your description reads it may say something completely different than the message you are intending to send. I just looked at some of my listings and eBay has taken the 8th, 4th, 16th, 17th, 13th and 14th line of the description and spliced them in order respectively. When done this way it thankfully makes a little sense on one of them but is completely misleading on others. I am using HTML to write all of my descriptions.

I'm old enough to have used a mini-computer that didn't have a hard drive. Used a 56K floppy disk to load CPM operating system and then another to load a program and then another to save anything. So I know what HTML is. BUT we shouldn't have to work around a serious eBay app mess! Complain everybody!

how about re-arrange the photos and duplicate photos show up in the re-arrangment boxes. in other words the one you are moving shows up twice. what is that? when your done re-arranging everything sets back up correctly, but its frustrating because when you are editing, what your editing is not the one you are looking at.

This was actually caused by the Spring 2016 seller update for mobile optimization:

We actually noticed what you did several months ago. Our summaries always showed something from our summaries at the bottom of our listings - sometimes it chose the statement about us not being experts on fitment, sometimes it chose the statement about our parts being in storage for 40-80 years. An ebay bot or program chooses the text for the item summary for both the mobile app and for the summaries when someone clicks on a ebay link from google. We never could figure out what was triggering it to choose those sentences. This also affects what is displayed as the description summary in Google shopping.
We have been spending lots of time going through our lisings to add the html code to tell the bot what we want to be the description summary. We use Sixbit so we had to basically cut and paste our own html version of the code before and after the descriptions in our description wrappers for 1300 listings and now it is incorporated in all new listings.
The code is described in this ebay article:
