Who decided to remove or extremely water down the catagories on the android app? It's impossible to browse by specific catagories with the latest update and you can't even use the website as it automatically redirects to the rubbish app.
Not sure how ebay manage to keep making things worse and more complicated but it feels like they do at least twice per year.
Any way to just drill down to a specific catagory now? I mean it's 2024, things should be more intuitive, not less.

If browser links are redirecting to the eBay app automatically and you do not want that, you can disable that feature. In iOS, tap and hold an eBay browser link and you should see options to open in the app or not. Using Android, go to your device Settings: Apps: eBay: Open by Default: Open Supported Links and choose "Don't open in the app".
What category are you trying to reach?
If you are having problems browsing a category, you may find it easier to search using a keyword, and if necessary, narrowing the search to that category. Try searching using the category name as your keyword(s) -- that seems to work for most categories unless the name has an ampersand (&) in it.

I shouldn't have to use the browser though. If I want to browse (for example) Sega Megadrive games by catagory with no keywords, why it's it as easy today as it was a week or two ago?
I don't always want to use keywords anyway, it's been an ebay function since day dot to just browse a catagory.

I can browse the Video Games category in the app. After a quick look I do not see a specific subcategory or filter for Sega in the app, though there are filters available when using a browser.
It is entirely possible that eBay has changed something that makes browsing categories in the app more difficult, either intentionally or unintentionally. eBay does change things from time to time. eBay will likely continue to change things further.
You can report issues with the app by shaking your phone while the app is active.
In the mean time, have you considered searching using sega mega-drive games as your search keywords?
