Grandad's last name starts with a W anyway looks like an M on leather. Don't know anything about it. Any help appreciated

I'm not sure if that's a medal at all. Does the metal portion seem like it's meant to fit on a belt or strap?
Picture 2 is upside down I believe. I wonder if it's an epaulette ?

Could be a hanger for a dress sword(or part thereof). Maybe a part of a dress rigging for another item(like for a flagbearer or instrument), though those are both outside the realm that I collect. Might even be just a watch fob.

Yes I know it is upside down-I don't think it is a medal but did not know what it is called. Seems to open and attach to something? I have never unlatched/opened it.

It's WWII period Italian. The "M" is for Mussolini. It's a hanger of some type but, I'm not sure what. The eagle with fasces over an "M" was also used on their dagger hangers.
